In the heart of wine country, secrets run as deep as the vines.
Sophie Brooks, a food blogger and digital nomad, heads to Sonoma’s wine country to explore its famous vineyards. But when a mysterious disappearance shatters the idyllic landscape, Sophie must uncover the truth hidden among the whispers and the wine.
Food blogger and digital nomad Sophie Brooks is on her first stop in Sonoma, California, where the wine flows as freely as the secrets. Eager to showcase the region’s farm-to-table dining scene, Sophie is ready to indulge in the local wines and meet the passionate people behind them. But when one of the vineyard’s owners goes missing, the peaceful countryside takes a dark turn.
As whispers of betrayal and old grudges swirl through the vines, Sophie finds herself caught in the middle of a mystery that threatens to unravel the very fabric of this picturesque wine country. With her sharp instincts and a love for uncovering the truth, Sophie must navigate the delicate balance between tasting fine wines and untangling deadly secrets.
Can she solve the mystery before the whispers turn into something more dangerous?
Wine & Whispers is the first book in the Sophie Brooks Mysteries.
Wine and Whispers by Daisy Landish brings Sophie Brooks to Sonoma, California.
Will Sophie find more than the wine and food stories she is looking for in Sonoma?
Our sleuth is Sophie Brooks. She is in wine country to write posts for her blog and figure out who she wants to be when she stumbles upon a mystery. At some point, Sophie must have been an investigative reporter or something, as her friend Oliver considers her a detective.
I like Sophie and think she is a good character. However, I feel like the author may need to suss out a bit more or let readers into her backstory before being the Oregon farm-to-table restaurant/food blogger owner.
I feel like the version I read was still in the draft form as the sequence was off, and some of the items had two or more versions. However, there are many things that I like.
Likes
- The social media blog posts with the pictures.
- The text messages back and forth with Oliver.
- The market
- The morning and evening scenes at the guest cottage
- Sophie’s tenacity
Three Stars
My rating for Wine and Whispers by Daisy Landish is three stars. I like the story’s premise, but I found the many discrepancies in the sequence of events and character changes confusing. However, with some editing, this could be a terrific cozy mystery.
