Where There’s Smoke, There’s Arson
Series: The Gray-Haired Knitting Detectives #4
Author: D.E. Haggerty
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Pages: 100
Release Date: February 19, 2021
Summary:
Bernadette didn’t smoke. The fire couldn’t have been an accident!
Oh boy, the gray-haired knitters are at it again. Of course, they are. It’s been way too long since they ‘solved’ a mystery. But the investigator determined the fire at the craft store was caused by an unattended lit cigarette. Arson isn’t even a remote possibility. Except that the owner Bernadette didn’t smoke, and now she’s dead.
When Bernadette’s granddaughter asks me to look into the matter, the knitters practically cheer. They are on the case!
But is there even a case? Or are we seeing murder and arson where there’s merely smoke?

Interview with Izzy Archer
How did you and your author meet?
We met on a trip she took to Jordan. She thought she could run around having fun visiting Crusader castles without characters dancing in her head. She was wrong.
Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?
She loves me. She thinks I’m sassy and funny. It has nothing to do with me waking her up over and over at night until she wrote the story. Nothing at all.
Do you have any friends or family helping you out?
Help? Define help. My late grandma’s knitting group think they are tons of help. They are tons of fun but not necessarily helpful. And then there’s my best friend, Jack. He doesn’t even bother to claim to help. He’s just along for the ride.
Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side, or are you a full-time detective?
Since Grandma died and left me more money than I need – big surprise! – I no longer work.
What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?
Oh geez. Choices. Choices. I’m going to go with when the knitters – who are over eighty-years old, mind you – decide to slide down the pole at the fire station. You’d think they’d care they’re wearing skirts. Apparently, they don’t.
Have you solved other cases, or is this your first one?
This is our fourth ‘case,’ but don’t tell the knitters I used the word case. They’re starting to think they’re professional detectives, and the world is not ready for that disaster.
Do you have a gift or special talent?
Does herding elderly knitters who are more difficult to herd than cats count?
~I actually think you could market that as a skill, for sure.
Who is the most important individual in your life?
That’s easy – my baby Colt, although my husband Noel is a close second.
What is your ideal vacation?
I’d settle for any tropical location where no one drops dead under suspicious circumstances.
If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?
Can I bring Grandma back from the dead? Even though her friends try and fill the hole she left behind, I miss her.
~I understand that one. If only we could do that.

About the Author
I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands-on, from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories that have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although, on the odd occasion, I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled-up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic before returning to the law. But practicing law really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out running a B&B wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul, where I decided to give the whole writer-thing ago. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague, where, in between tennis matches and failing to save the world, I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.
