Wedding cake on top of the table, a dead body underneath, and a favorite auntie accused of putting it there is no way to start a marriage.

It’s been one-hundred-and-eighty-three days and fourteen hours since Reagan Summerside tripped across yet another dead body. Still, hopes of her Savannah wedding to Walker Boone going off without a hitch are dashed when a corpse is found under the cake table, and Auntie KiKi is accused of putting it there. Can Reagan and Walker find the killer without him finding them first, or will their new address be Bonaventure Cemetery?

Wedding Day and Foul Play by Duffy Brown is a nice short read that can be read while you are waiting for dinner to cook or even just spending the day outside if it’s warm enough.

Will Reagan find out who killed Corny if it wasn’t Auntie Kiki?

Reagan (Summerside) Boone

Reagan Summerside is getting ready to marry Walker Boone and can’t wait to be his husband. She’s gone a long time without finding a dead body and is ready to celebrate with her new husband. Reagan has a tough time keeping her Auntie Kiki in line and staying at home where she won’t get into any trouble. From what I’ve read in this book, no one can keep Auntie Kiki away from solving a murder, especially if she’s the prime suspect. Reagan is a pretty smart girl, and it shows in some of the things she does throughout. Her consignment shop sounds interesting.

The Mystery

Wedding Day and Foul Play CRIn Savannah, Georgia, on the eve of Reagan’s wedding to Walker Boone, someone kills Cornelius “Corny” McBride in Kiki Vanderpool’s house. It’s up to Reagan to figure out who actually did in Corny since she knows it wasn’t Auntie Kiki. She uncovers a lot of suspects with Auntie Kiki’s help even though Kiki should have stayed home with her ankle monitor on. I figured it out before the sleuth did, but I kept reading because I wanted to know why he did and what he used to kill Corny. It sounds like Savannah is a pretty place to live, and they have a weird way to name their squares.

3 Stars

Wedding Day and Foul Play by Duffy Brown is a marvelous mystery filled with these quirky Southern characters. Ms. Brown does a great job even though I’m still puzzled over a few things, but oh well. I am giving this book three stars and recommending it to people that like to read short Southern mysteries.
