Lara Jean's love life gets complicated in this New York Times bestselling lovely, lighthearted romance SLJ from the New York Times bestselling author of The Summer I Turned Pretty series.

What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them ... all at once?

Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren't love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she's written. One for every boy she's ever loved -- five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han has, Lara Jean tries to fill in Margot’s shoes while doing something that isn’t her.

Can Lara Jean survive without Margot there?

The Song Covey Girls

Ms. Han wrote this book in the first person, with Lara Jean as our narrator since the book is all about her. It also deals with her sisters and their relationship with each other. The one thing that irked me was when they talked about their parents and called them Mommy and Daddy.

Margot

Margot Song Covey is the eldest of the Song Covey trio. She’s been holding the family together like glue since their mom passed away a while ago. Margot is going to college in Scotland and isn’t good at goodbyes. Out of all the Covey girls, we barely see Margot through Lara Jean’s eyes, and the times we do, I have to say that I don’t care for her. I think Margot can be highly judgemental and doesn’t seem to care what Lara Jean needs or to see that Lara Jean needs advice that only a big sister can give her. She doesn’t need Margot to replace their mom.

Maybe in the next book, Margot gets better.

Lara Jean

Next up on the Song Covey Girls is Lara Jean Song Covey. Being the middle sibling means that Lara Jean gets pushed back a bit from the limelight. Margot is great at everything, and Kitty tries to imitate Margot, along with doing whatever Kitty wants. Lara Jean is trying to fill in Margot’s shoes by trying to do everything Margot did for them. She forgets to be herself until a certain letter reaches Peter, and Lara Jean ends up coming out of her shell. To All the Boys I've Loved Before CR

I have to say that I liked Lara Jean a lot, and I feel bad for her because of everything she has to deal with now that Margot is gone. Not only that, but I feel like Lara Jean and I could be friends in high school if we were in the same place.

Katherine “Kitty”

The last of the trio happens to be Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey. When their mom died, Kitty was just a baby and didn’t have a whole lot of memories of her. So the memories that she does have are just stories that Lara Jean, Margot, and their dad told her over the years since. Kitty is a fabulous character who knows what she wants and tries to get it. The only problem is that since she’s the baby, Kitty is sometimes overlooked by everyone, especially when she wants certain people to hang out with her.

The Letters

Lara Jean has written a total of five love letters. Well, more letters that make her stop loving the person that the letter is intended for. One day after school has already started Lara Jean finds out that all of her letters have been mailed and delivered to all her crushes. The sad thing is that she has no clue how they got out since they weren’t supposed to get delivered to them. Well, when a boy you crush on happens to be off limits thanks to the girl code, one ends up starting a contract fake relationship until the contract is completed.

Except what happens when the contracted fake relationship starts to feel real to you? What then? Poor Lara Jean is about to find out.

Five Stars

I have to say that To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han had a rough beginning for me, but it got better, and I’m officially in love with it. Ms. Han has done a fabulous job of making this story come to life. I just wish that we got more of Lara Jean and Peter talking at the school or something. Obviously, it isn’t just about the romance but also about Lara Jean’s family relationship as well, so I get it. My rating for To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han is five stars, and I’m recommending it to anyone who wants to give it a shot.

Oh and don’t forget about the recipes in the back. These recipes are Lara Jean’s favorite Christmas Cookie Bonanza. They are Lara Jean’s Cowgirl Cookies, Kitty’s Favorite Snickerdoodles, The Infamous Fruitcake Cookies, and Josh’s Favorite White-Chocolate Cranberry Cookies.
