For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
The Selection by Kiera Cass delivers us a love story worthy of commitment.
Will America fall for Prince Maxon?
America Singer
America Singer is the person we follow through on this journey. She has some significant character growth throughout the book. America is a gentle person who is shown to be friendly toward everyone. She also has no experience having friends besides those her family knows, and not even then. The only person that isn’t related to her family that she was friendly with happened to be Aspen, but she ended up falling for him. Like any teenager, America thinks they know everything, but she is proven wrong when she comes to the palace to be a Selected. I like America and how she happens to share things with us about her life in this new world. Her knowledge is limited to what her mom can teach her, and she is learning much more at the palace. America is shown to be a great contender to be a princess.
The Story
America is one of the thirty-five Selected women of her nation to try to win her prince’s heart. She doesn’t think she will be the one for Prince Maxon until America gets to know him. Many things happen once America receives the letter to sign up to be a part of the Selection. I think that America hated the idea because she didn’t know all that much about the royal family except what she could gather from the Friday segment of the Royals talking on television. America doesn’t want her heart to get broken again, which is why I think that she fully won’t allow herself to believe that she is falling for the prince. I like how everything is being played out within the novel, and I can’t wait to see more of this world. Maybe we will learn more about the history of Illea.
Five Stars
My rating is five stars for The Selection by Kiera Cass, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to try it. All I did was give it a try, not because of how popular the book series is but because I have always been curious. I think that Ms. Cass has done a fantastic job on it, and I love the way it is. I’m not a big fan of reality shows, but I love reading this one. Secretly, I hope that America ditches Aspen soon so she can be with Maxon wholeheartedly.
