No matter how hard she tries, Ruby, a quiet orphan girl, doesn’t fit in.
She hopes that if she finds her birth mother things might change, returning to the peaceful life she thinks she remembers. But how does a seven year old go about finding someone who vanished years ago and hasn’t been heard from since?
After an intriguing interaction leads her to make a strange new friend, she ignorantly turns to magic, trusting the arcane to solve her problems, but the magic slips from her control threatening to ruin all her plans.
In way over her head, she struggles to make everything right, trusting desperately, that even if she succeeds she will still have a life to return to and possibly a place to still call home.
The Garden of the Jelly Bean Faeiries by Kris Stevenn makes one realize that the statement “Be careful what you wish for” has some meaning.
Will Ruby fit in?
Ruby
Ruby is a seven-year-old orphan girl who was adopted by the Sanderill family. Most of the family was happy to have Ruby there—except two of them. The mom, dad, and older brother were quite excited to have Ruby join their family. However, not the two girls who bullied her. I have to say that I wasn’t all that happy with Ruby after she found out that she had magic.
The Story
Ruby finds out that she has magic in the weirdest way, and then, after that, she, in a way, holds it above her sisters even though they don’t really know that she is this way. Not only that, but I feel like she is obsessed with growing this garden with jelly beans. This is the only thing that Ruby wants to do, and she almost doesn’t care who she hurts to do it.
Does she truly want to make a wish badly enough to hurt her relationship with the Sanderill family?
Three Stars
My rating for The Garden of the Jelly Bean Faeiries by Kris Stevenn is three stars. I had a hard time getting myself to finish this book as I was having a hard time with the magic system, liking the main character, and being able to feel sorry for her. The only part I felt sorry for her for was when she was getting bullied by her sisters, but that was it. It hit a little too close to home with my past about being away from my own family.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of The Garden of the Jelly Bean Faeiries by Kris Stevenn.
