New PI Jade Cavendish’s investigation into a cheating husband takes a bizarre turn when she uncovers a plot to commit murder.

The Amorous Assailant has frustrated police for months. His MO is always the same. He binds his victims with red silk, kisses them, and leaves them with a red rose. Women throughout the city are worried they’ll be his next victim.

Novice PI Jade Cavendish isn’t one of them, though. After inheriting the Beachtown Detective Agency, she’s worried about landing a paying client. Any client. She’d even settle for a dognapping.

Gina Rose, a wealthy young heiress, has a problem. Her new husband, a man she thought was her perfect match, is bleeding her dry. When Gina hires Jade to prove her husband is defrauding her, Jade quickly learns he's a terrible businessman. His investment properties are oozing money like open wounds.

On the surface, it appears Gina simply has bad taste in men. But Jade refuses to give up on her client so easily. Her investigation pulls her into a world filled with greed, one where secrets are a way of life, events are not always what they seem, and lies conceal deadly realities—including the Amorous Assailant’s true motive.

The Case of the Amorous Assailant by Terry Ambrose has a daughter trying to keep her father’s business going after he retires and has one tough first case to solve.

Will Jade keep her first client happy?

J.D. “Jade” Cavendish

Jade likes neither her first nor middle name, so she wants to be called J.D., but her classmates decide to call her Jade. Her dad has finally decided to retire and leave his business for his little girl to take over. Talk about filling in some big shoes, as many people care about her dad and expect her to be great. One of them being herself. I love how she fumbles throughout the story while trying to work her case by herself but still goes to her dad and admits when she needs his help. Another thing that I like is that she is trying to do her own thing with the PI business that is now her’s to run as she sees fit.

The Case

The Case of the Amorous Assailant CRJade takes on a case that her dad told her not to take in the first place. Well, he wasn’t there during the meeting but basically said to her that cases that basically involve following a spouse means a divorce case. So, Jade takes it because she needs the work. It starts out normal until she finds the client’s deceased husband in a hotel room. Jade has to figure out who would kill her client’s husband other than her client if she wants to get paid for her services. Well, let’s say that it gets juicer after that. I loved everything about this story and figured out who did it but not why.

Five Stars

The Case of the Amorous Assailant by Terry Ambrose is the perfect start to a new series. A new heroine is starting out in the private investigator business while trying to figure out her life. Mr. Ambrose gets me to think in all of his series about who could have done it, and I almost fell for the red herring, but I didn’t! The Case of the Amorous Assailant by Terry Ambrose is a five-star read from me, and I recommend it to anyone who likes private investigator mysteries.

Plus, it’s like a mini vacation read as you go to a small beach town near San Diego, California.
