In the new Vintage Kitchen Mystery from the author of A Calculated Whisk, Jaymie’s not sure who to believe when every suspect’s alibi has as many holes as a sieve . . .

Vintage cookware collector Jaymie Müller is stunned when an irate woman accuses her pharmacist friend Val of tampering with her prescription. When more unfounded accusations follow, it seems clear the woman has a personal grudge against Val. But before they can figure out why, Jaymie and Val stumble upon the woman’s dead body on the steps of Val’s pharmacy. Given her altercations with the woman and the location of the body, the police naturally suspect Val.

Jaymie has heard rumors that the victim had become forgetful and erratic, but could that explain her death? And why was Val being framed as her murderer? Determined to find the clues that connect the woman’s strange behavior to her death, Jaymie begins questioning the people in her life—and soon suspects that the culprit is among them. But she’ll have to be careful about who she confronts, because while solving murders is hard work, there’s a killer on the loose who finds committing them all too easy . . .

Character Interview with Jaymie Leighton Muller

How did you and your author meet?

I’m Jaymie Leighton Müller, and Victoria is a fellow lover of vintage kitchen utensils and collectibles. I suppose you could say we met because of our mutual interests!

Why did this writer decide to feature you in a whole series of books?

The Vintage Kitchen Mystery series is all about me, and my journey, so, I suppose that’s why she’s featured me? It’s been quite the trip so far! Eleven books ago I started as a lonely miserable singleton recently dumped by the man I thought was the love of my life until he cheated on me with a gorgeous twenty-something I thought was my rival but is now one of my best friends – whew, that’s a mouthful! After that I dated a millionaire, lusted after a sexy detective, and then found my true love, my husband, and his adorable Little Person daughter, Jocie! Jakob literally saved my life, and that’s a whole ‘nother story.

Along the way I stumbled over bodies, some of them killed using vintage kitchenware! And I solved their murders, with a little help from my friends. So, who else would she feature? Just kidding! I think of myself as one of a wonderful group including my bossy big sister Becca, my best friend Valetta, my other best friend Mrs. Martha Stubbs, and all the folks of my small Michigan town on the shores of the St. Clair River. Maybe Victoria finds it all interesting?

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

Val is my favorite sidekick. She is so smart! She’s a pharmacist after all, though right now her professional life is in jeopardy because of… well, I’ll leave that until folks read Sieve and Let Die! But we have to get Val out of a jam, and for that I will most definitely need the help of Mrs. Martha Stubbs, who remembers all of the past of our town, and my older sister and her friends, which is a part of this whole mystery! (Look at the cover of Sieve and Let Die, and you’ll see the front door of the Queensville Emporium, within which Valetta’s pharmacy does business!)

Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full-time detective?

A job? Like, one single job? I’m a gal of many talents. I fill in at the Emporium, and my sister’s store Queensville Fine Antiques, as well as a couple of other stores in town. I write a food column for the Wolverhampton Weekly Howler (Vintage Eats with Jaymie Leighton!) and am a volunteer at the historic house, where I coordinate the kitchen display and do tours! So… yeah. I do lots of other stuff!

What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?

I have a daughter, and she is addicted to puns! So ‘sieve’ shows up a lot in jokes, which Jocie loves to think up! Check out the first chapter for one of her jokes that I did not get, and had to have explained to me!

Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?

Y’know, I have this annoying habit of finding bodies. I have found too many. Waaay too many. So we’re up to… what is it? Eleven now? (But who’s counting?)

Do you have a gift or a special talent?

I think I do. Maybe this sounds weird, but… I care. That’s my special talent. I care about people and… oh, I guess my curiosity. I’ve always thought of that as my super power. I care about people and I’m curious about their lives and want the best for most people, so… that helps me solve many a mystery, just being willing to follow that curiosity where it leads me. The former chief of the Queensville Township PD said I was a natural investigator. I guess that’s what he meant!

Who is the most important individual in your life?

How can I name just one? My priorities have shifted over the years, so Jakob, my husband, is my number one, I suppose. But Jocie, my daughter… you know, you never fully realize how important someone is until you almost lose them, and that happens in… well, never mind for now. You’ll read all about it. But I’ll say this, motherhood has changed me completely! I will have to do something I never would have thought wise.

What is your ideal vacation?

Beach! Or cottage. Our family owns a cottage on Heartbreak Island, and I have so many fond memories of spending vacation time there.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

Not a thing. I believe that if you make one change, it affects the overall balance, so wishing for things to be different in one area, would inevitably change things in another.

Thank you so much for the interesting questions! This was fun.
