This month’s first featured author is Sarah Fischer.
Sarah Fischer is the co-author of Royally Abandoned and Cupid Claus. I was introduced to them last year when they asked me to read those two books. I think that my mom got tired of me talking about how great these books are. Each one was completely different, and I loved that these two wonderful friends can write books while not having it seem like two different authors wrote it.
I love that each new book that they write takes me to a new place that I have never been to.
Anyway, this is about the author Sarah Fischer. Let’s dive into the interview and get to know Sarah Fischer.
Personal
Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
I have a twin brother. He is ten minutes older than me.
What made you want to become a writer?
This is actually pretty embarrassing. I used to play The Sims video game. I created these elaborate stories. When I was about thirteen, I had a family member tell me my stories sounded like a book she’d read. She encouraged me to write them down. I’ve been writing since then.
What book that you have read has most influenced your life?
I can’t pick one book, but I can pick an author. I started reading Mary Higgins Clark as a preteen, and I fell in love with the mystery and suspense genre.
Who is your favorite author?
I don’t have one favorite. Obviously, I think Kelsey’s writing is amazing. I also love Catherine Bybee, Jennifer Probst, and Elizabeth Hoyt.
What is the first book that made you cry?
Couldn’t tell you. I can say the last book that made me cry was A Court of Thrones and Roses.
What do you want your tombstone to say?
I want to be cremated. Graveyards scare me.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I want to read minds, but I also want to be able to turn off the power whenever I want.
Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before (real or imaginary)?
Italy!
Do you have a bucket list? What is the last item on it?
I don’t have a list, but there are things I’d like to do. I’d like to see Moulin Rogue on Broadway.
Writing Style
What do you love most about your writing process?
Doing it with my best friend. It’s nice to share in the process.
Do you like music or silence?
I usually watch television. If I listen to music, I tend to start singing.
Do you have goals of a certain # of words a week or when inspiration strikes?
I’m an inspiration writer.
Do your characters seem to hijack the story, or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
My characters are 100% in control. It’s almost embarrassing.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
I struggle with scenery sometimes. I look up pictures for inspiration because I have a hard time seeing the scenery at times.
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
I write under my maiden name.
How important are character names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
I chose names based on the character. It could be the way they act, think, or their background. I also tend to use names that my husband insists I am not allowed to name my future children.
Book/Series
What is your favorite part of Falling in Puppy Love?
The rescue fundraising ball! I love a fancy party where you can wear a pretty dress.
Is anything in your book based on real-life experiences or purely all imagination?
I grew up with a rescued greyhound, so I love the idea of a dog rescue.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I came up with the name Before Pie for one of the restaurants in the book. The restaurant is on an orchard, and they supply the filling for the pies. I just thought this was a clever name, and I wish I owned a place like it.
How did you come up with the title?
In the shower, hahaha. I do a lot of my best thinking in the shower, so when I get stuck, I tend to hope in and think.
If you could spend time a character from your book, whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I’d like to spend time with Emily, the main character. I always try to write characters I’d like to be friends with. I feel like we would spend time at the movies.
If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?
Kristin Bell as Emily and Chris Pine as Aiden.
What project are you working on now?
Kelsey and I have another book coming out in January. It’s called Operation Valentine. We are finishing it up.
Do you have any other books coming out this year?
Unfortunately no.
