The Baroness’ Choices of New Books Publishing This Week
2024, Week 22’s New Books
My choices for this week include MG, Cozy Culinary Mystery, and Cozy Paranormal Mystery.
Is tomorrow the start of summer vacation for those who still have kids in school? Do you have any great books or anything planned for them to do? I remember fondly always having a book, okay several, to read during my summer vacations.
I got another fantastic selection of books this time, but unfortunately, not as many as last week. I did read one of these books last year, which I highly recommend.
Here are my choices for New Books Publishing Week 22 of 2024!

Inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and set in a magical imperial Japan, this is a breathtaking fantasy adventure from the acclaimed author of The Pearl Hunter.
Yuki Snow wishes she were anywhere but here.
She hates Santa Dolores, where her mom and stepdad just moved the family. Her BFF back home, Julio, has already forgotten his promise to stay in touch—and worse, he like likes Yuki’s mortal enemy. At her new school, the kids think she’s either invisible or a know-it-all nerd.
The only friend she’s made so far is the shopkeeper at a Japanese antiques store. Among the treasures there is an ancient brass mirror supposedly once owned by celebrated Japanese writer Sei Shonagon. It’s also rumored to be a portal to Shonagon’s world, which opens every hundred years. So when a woman with long jet-black hair and flowing silk robes appears in the glass, beckoning, Yuki knows there’s only one thing to do—step through to the unknown….
Muffins and Malice by Wendy Meadows

Welcome to Los Angeles, where Bethany Lights, Alaska’s own amateur sleuth, is about to get more than she bargained for. A favor for a friend goes sideways when a dead body shows up, then disappears, throwing her sunny trip into shadow. Bethany’s living it up in a big mansion, but she learns it’s all paid for with mystery money, and her friend Pete is in trouble with some serious Hollywood power players.
Bethany is good at fitting puzzle pieces together back home, but L.A. is a whole other ballgame. She makes some rough-and-tumble biker friends and hears key truths from a woman who knows too much. It’s all leading to a showdown in a dark room with someone who’s more monster than man. This isn’t just another case—this is about survival.
“Muffins and Malice“ is your ticket to ride along with Bethany. No swear words, no mess—just a straight-up, good mystery. Pick up your copy and see if you can crack the case alongside her before the credits roll.
