Generation after generation of Lane women die in childbirth, while the sea claims the men.

Pippin Lane Hawthorne’s grand opening of Sea Captain’s Inn is tainted when a scholar studying the Lost Colony of Roanoke is brutally murdered. Like the black crow that hangs around the old house, could the untimely death be a harbinger of dark things to come?

When her twin brother, Grey, begins bucking the curse by risking his life in the waters of the Outer Banks, Pippin lives in terror that he’ll be the next Lane male to be swallowed by the sea. Now she must use her gift of bibliomancy to save her brother, solve the murder, and end a two thousand year old pact.

Murder at Sea Captain’s Inn by Melissa Bourbon is a crazy story about treasure hunters after some treasure that they think is hidden at the Inn.

Will Pippin be able to keep Gray away from the ocean? Will she be able to stop their curse?

Peregrin “Pippin” Lane Hawthorne

Pippin Lane Hawthorne is the youngest child of Cassie and Leo Hawthorne and the twin sister to Gray Hawthorne. She is the co-owner of Sea Captain’s Inn with her brother, her silent partner, and is soon having her Opening Day. Pippin wants to put the past behind her with the opening of her Inn and wants to stop the curse like her father was trying to do. She is also thrust into solving a mystery so that her guests will feel safe at her Inn and not have a bad review.

As a person, I like Pippin as I think that she has a reasonable head on her shoulders, and I like how she wants to stop their curse so that they and future generations can live not in fear of the water or reading books. Another thing that I like about her because she adopted a dog that happens to be deaf and is learning sign language just to teach her dog commands.

The Mystery and the VictimMurder at the Sea Captain's Inn CR

Dr. Monique Baxter is the murder victim. She is a confusing person in the way that she presented herself to Pippin, in the way that she acted and how she died. Pippin is forced to figure out why she died as she learns that Dr. Baxter was after her family history. Everything about this woman unraveled after she died and the further that Pippin got into figuring out who did it. I didn’t guess who did it at all. I was actually surprised at who did it.

Five Stars

I am giving Murder at the Sea Captain’s Inn by Melissa Bourbon five stars and recommending it to anyone that likes paranormal cozy mysteries. Ms. Bourbon writes in a way that makes the reader captivated and completely part of the story. I love this story and the characters. I read the mini-story of how Pippin and Gray’s parents met, and the next generation is great. Pippin and Gray are two wonderful characters. The mystery is great, and I loved reading it and learning how Pippin is dealing with her book magic along with protecting Gray.
