Summary:
One for sorrow, two for spice triggers a game of three blind mice.
While vacationing in New England, PI Jax Diamond and his courageous canine partner, Ace, bite off more than they can chew when two small town deaths reveal two big time killers, and the locals don’t take too kindly to strangers.
Laura Graystone, Broadway star, auto expert, and Jax’s heartthrob, is once again front and center digging for clues while trying to ditch an old boyfriend. That is, until her brother becomes Jax’s prime suspect. Then all hell breaks loose, and Ace is left in the lurch, tracking down leads with his new sidekick, Susie.
A crazy duet of crimes sends Jax, Laura and Ace into a tailspin in small-town USA during the Roaring Twenties. Where no one is above the law, everyone is a suspect, and time is running out before the clock strikes one.
An Interview with Ace
How did you and your author meet? Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?
All her life, the author wanted a beautiful and brave German Shepherd. We met some years ago when I was a puppy and needed a new home. As soon as I saw her, I knew she was the one, so I followed her home all by myself. It was a match made in heaven. We quickly became best friends. I guarded her two little ones and even saved her son’s life when he was three years old. She tells everyone that I saved her life, too, but I’m not sure how. She knew Jax Diamond, the star of her detective series, and I would get along great. And she was right. We make the best partners.
Do you have any friends or family helping you out?
Right off, I fell in love with Jax’s new heartthrob, Laura. She’s a beautiful Broadway star who knows everything there is about automobiles. In this book, we needed to leave New York City and travel to her small town of Millbury, MA, since she thinks her father’s death wasn’t an accident. And we had to call Jax’s best friend, Tim, who’s a cop in the city, to come help us. I really like Tim and especially his two little kids.
Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full-time detective?
Jax is a private detective, so that’s my full-time job, too. We’ve been on plenty of crazy cases together, and so far, he hasn’t been able to solve one case without me.
What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?
As soon as we get to Millbury, I dig up a dead body in the woods. Yet, when the local sheriff and his deputy, Laura’s old flame, arrive, the body is gone. Jax and I both feel kind of stupid. But the very next day, I dig up the same body elsewhere in town. Jax gets annoyed with me, but we showed them!
Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?
Whew! I can’t count how many since I’ve known Jax for nearly two years. Just as an example, in the first book of the series, a playwright was poisoned. That was a tough one. In the second book, both Tim and Jax are framed for murder, so Laura and I had to go undercover to prove their innocence. In this book, it looks like we’re dealing with two killers, and believe me, there are more than a few strange people in this town.
Do you have a gift or special talent?
I have quite a talent for posing as sweet and harmless, fooling crooks, then I can turn on a dime when they least expect it. Obviously, I have keener senses than anyone else. But this is my favorite. In book 2, Jax told me to play dead in the middle of the road when we had to stop the paddy wagon and rescue our friend Tim from being transported to Sing Sing. That was a lot of fun.
Who is the most important individual in your life?
Outside of the author, Jax Diamond. He’s my partner in crime and supposedly the star of the book and the series, but I usually steal the show. I guess you could say we’re two of a kind. We’re both smart, fearless, and a lot of fun. I’m a little bit more loveable, though.
What is your ideal vacation?
I love living in New York City, but when we travel to Millbury in this book, I meet Susie, the cutest little seven-year-old. We become best friends, so I’m hoping to go back there again someday and see her.
If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?
The author gave me the name Ace in the series, which is an alias. My real name is Gretchen.
Thank you very much for your time and interest in her book. This interview was a lot of fun for me! Have a gr-eat! day!
