Holly Price has it all—or does she?
Holly finally has the dream job at the top of her field, the money and prestige she’s worked so hard to attain. But when a friend disappears while Holly is working a make-or-break career assignment, she’s drawn into another criminal investigation. A ruthless con ring will stop at nothing to extort its victims and her friends are directly in their cross-hairs.
While she's searching for her missing friend, behind the scenes she’s wrestling with a backstabbing boss, a hurtful family situation, and the devastating worry she’s made a massive life choices mistake. When the gangsters target Holly, however, facing certain death has a way of making her reevaluate her life.
Now Holly must confront her painful past in order to redefine her future...and hope she lives long enough to see it.
Calling for the Money by Cathy Perkins is a turmoil of emotions, life-changing decisions, blackmail, kidnapping, and blackmail. So, lots going on in this excellent mystery.
Which life will Holly decide is right for her? Will she help find her new friend Brian before its too late?
Holly Price
Holly is our main character and sleuth. She is also an accountant, but not your run of the mill numbers cruncher, she is way up there. Holly is a partner in a high-class acquisition firm in Seattle. This is her life goal, and now she has it. The biggest question is, does she still want it and the lifestyle that goes with it. Either way, Holly has lots of decisions to make regarding her family, where she is planning to live full time and if her goals are the same as before.
I like Holly, she is intelligent, confident, and she is nice. Holly really knows tax laws and how to decide if a deal is good or bad. I was very impressed by her work ethic, attitude, and desire to assist everyone. I also like that she stands up for herself. Oh, and her dad is a jerk.
The Mystery
The mystery revolves around these four veterans; they were all in the military together. Now they work at the same company and share a house near Venice Beach, California. Someone is setting these guys up through a dating service and then blackmailing them. Holly sees what’s going on quickly but not before Brian disappears. Holly is trying to help find Brian.
I had no clue who was doing what with the mystery. I was just along for the ride, but I couldn’t put it down. However, Holly is a rock star. She saw that things weren’t going correctly and spoke up to help them get the whole thing in the newspaper and the police involved.
Five Stars
I was so entertained by this story, that at times I could smell the salt air from the ocean. The characters are beautifully written, and the mystery was plotted well. Therefore I am rating Calling for the Money by Cathy Perkins five stars. I will be looking for the next one in the series, and I recommend this book to all cozy readers out there.
