I'm Becky.

The new girl.

Again.

Dad's work keeps us moving a lot, so I'm sort of used to it. Still, being the new girl in middle school for the umpteenth time isn't exactly easy. And to make things worse, the mean girls AKA Thing One and Thing Two, already have it out for me on day one.

Good thing I have a plan to beat them.

I've been tweaking it for years in every school I've been to.

Time to test it, and myself, out for real.

Becky Beats the Mean Girls by Katherine H. Brown is about a young girl moving so much that she has found a way to keep what the mean girls say from hurting.

What is Becky’s way to beat the mean girls?

Rebecca “Becky” Addenbrooke

Becky Addenbrooke is used to moving a lot within one school year. Ailana decides to pick on Becky on her first day because Ailana thought Becky would be an easy target. Becky has proven otherwise from the start of the school year to around Christmas. Becky seems like a good character, and I love how she chose to deal with whatever Ailana throws at her. She has a good head on her shoulders.

The Story

Becky Beats the Mean Girls CREven though the story is a short one, it still gives a lot within the short 57 pages with thirteen chapters. Becky tells the story, and I picture her doing this in like a diary despite very obviously I know it’s not. Ms. Brown does a great job of writing this book. I like how Becky not only deals with Ailana but is making friends and possibly has a crush. Her father is a hoot, and I never heard of a science nutritionist job before, and I thought it was really cool.

Five Stars

Becky Beats the Mean Girls by Katherine H. Brown is a great little read. It makes me remember what it was like in middle school. I moved at least once in middle school, but it wasn’t as tough for me as it was for Becky, mostly because I didn’t really have any mean girls to deal with as she did. I would have loved to have gone to a school like hers with the lunches she has. Becky is a great kid, and I love how she dealt with the bullies and ended up coming up with a plan like hers to deal with bullies or mean girls.

Ms. Brown has done an excellent job on writing this book. I am giving this book five stars and recommending it to all the middle school readers out there.

About Katherine H. Brown

Katherine H Brown

Katherine Brown is a Texas girl with books in her blood. She has been reading as long as she can remember and has been “making books” from the time she was a child. Her first few were of a non-traditional binding – cardboard & wrapping paper stapled with handwritten pages in the middle & a ribbon closure! Her love of books runs deep and she hopes to encourage readers of all ages to explore and use their imagination by helping them fall in love with books just like she did.

Katherine is married to a wonderful man, Patrick, and has a spunky, smart, amazing step-daughter Lexi. Lexi is the biggest fan of this author’s first published series, School is Scary, and is constantly asking when the next book will be finished so she can read it too.
