The next book in the delectable Deep Dish Mystery series by Mindy Quigley, set in a Wisconsin pizzeria.
It’s February in the ritzy lakeside resort town of Geneva Bay, Wisconsin, and love is in the air. Pizza chef Delilah O’Leary is gearing up to celebrate her first Valentine’s Day with hunky police detective Calvin Capone, great-grandson of the infamous Chicago mobster. But their romance is put on ice when a shocking discovery plunges them into a century-old crime with ties to Capone’s notorious forefather.
As old secrets surface, Delilah realizes that nearly everyone in town―from Capone’s cagey cousin to her own quirky customers―has something to hide. With the pressure mounting and the past closing in, Delilah must help Capone follow a trail of clues that could lead them to a priceless treasure... or into a deadly trap. Can Delilah serve up justice before history repeats itself? Or will she and Capone end up sleeping with the anchovies?
At Death’s Dough by Mindy Quigley is a Valentine treat of a mystery.
Will Delilah and her crew figure out who killed Calvin’s cousin?
Delilah O’Leary
Our sleuth is Delilah, the chef and owner of Delilah & Son’s pizzeria in Wisconsin. She doesn’t investigate on her own though, her restaurant staff and friends all get involved. Even her cat, Butterball lends a paw. What I like about this whole group is they are like one big family, from the meals to not letting each other go too far. They are always there to help.
I enjoy hanging out with them. Especially since I am not in the freezing rain and snow of the Wisconsin winter. Although, they make me hungry with all the talk of pizza and desserts.
The Mystery
I love the mystery connection to Al Capone and the Chicago mob. The disrepair of the old mobster mansion on the lake and the prologue, all lead to an amazing tale. I love the way parts of the story follow what could have been. We don’t know what really happened back then. Anyway, the mystery was superb, I did follow the clues and figured out who did it about three chapters before Delilah did. Delilah’s reasoning was sound though. Yet, she underestimated the culprit in the end. I bet she doesn’t do that again. Oh, and if she is going to keep sleuthing, she is going to need to do some cardio. Not that I am one to do that either. I would much rather eat pizza and dessert.
Five Stars
My rating for At Death’s Dough by Mindy Quigley is five stars. I completely loved the whole vibe. The mystery, the characters, even the crazy cold setting. However, I wouldn’t want to dive in any lake in Wisconsin in February. I highly recommend this cozy mystery.
Recipes included are St. Valentine’s Day Mascarpone, Daniel’s Love Potion Number Nine, Al’s Favorite Walnut Spaghetti, Lola Capone Style, and A Pizza Mindy’s Heart.
