All Lexi wants to do is get through the day at her boring temp job with Green Hand Insurance. That’s until she discovers the vice president, Martin Dean, in a pool of blood and herself at the center of an investigation into insurance fraud.Millions of dollars are missing, the chief suspect is dead and her mysterious, sexy, new boss is not what he seems.Recruited by the joint task force working on the case, all Lexi has to do is work out who killed Dean and where the missing millions are. That’s easier said than done when her sister insists upon the baby shower to end all baby showers, her wise-ass cop family just wants to keep her safe, someone keeps leaving her creepy gifts, and all the clues point to a seedy sex club on the wrong side of town.As the bodies start to pile up, Lexi is on a race against time to find the killer and the money, before she’s the next one in the murderer’s sights.
Murder, fraud, blackmail, can she figure it before someone finds her dead?
Armed and Fabulous by Camilla Chafer is the first book in the Lexi Graves Mysteries Series, this book starts out a little like the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Ms. Chafer has given it a different spin. I liked the book and similarities aren’t that big of a deal. The characters are well rounded and the story kept moving along at a nice speed.
Lexi Graves is a temp extraordinaire. She has long beautiful blond hair, which she is a little obsessive about. She is from a family of cops (her dad is retired, and her three brothers are currently working in different departments), with the exception of her sister who is an attorney. Lexi really hasn’t found her place in the world yet. She is smart, she was in the army, she has a degree, but she still doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up.
Lexi is working at Green Hand Insurance when her big boss is murdered. Lexi, of course, finds the body. This becomes Lexi’s thing…finding dead bodies. This is where her supervising boss Adam confides in her that he is an undercover cop. Then Lexi is recruited to work with Adam and his FBI partner Solomon. Lexi finds both of these men are not bad on the eyes and the feeling seems mutual.
I liked that Lexi was smart about finding the clues sometimes though she sort of lost her train of thought, you know those hot guy distractions. Her friend Lily is a crack up. The things that girl knows about the weird side of Montgomery are crazy. I really liked that she was always supporting Lexi even on the craziest capers.
The mystery was good. I found a couple of errors but overall it was a good story. I will be checking out the next book in the series. So my rating is 4 stars for the first bool in the Lexi Graves Series.
