Innkeeper Holly White has a lot to be joyful about this season, until an attempted robbery throws the town into suspicion in the sixth installment of the Christmas Tree Farm mysteries from bestselling author Jacqueline Frost.

As Christmas descends on Mistletoe, Maine, Holly White has an extra gift for the season: a new baby on the way. Her husband, Sheriff Evan Gray, has been worried about her elevated blood pressure, and Holly has agreed to take this year easy. Being idle has never been one of Holly’s gifts, so when Evan surprises her with tickets to the town-wide dinner, she and her many cravings thank him. But when a thief tries and fails to steal an antique ornament from the dinner’s holiday display, it’s clear that someone is on the naughty list.

The thief manages to escape, but after dinner, Holly spots their lifeless body. It’s clear that someone in town was keen to kill them. Evan is less than jolly to find his wife at the scene of yet another holiday homicide and asks her to promise that she’ll leave the investigating to the police. But Holly has never been one to turn down a challenge and has to get creative with the help of a few of her friends in order to find this killer.

Will she and her friends be able to stop the killer and uncover the motive behind the attempted robbery, or will the killer strike again and paint the town a bloody red?

A Wonderful Christmas Crime by Jacqueline Frost is a magical snow filled ole mystery that had me smiling.

Will Holly White take this season off, or will she stick her nose in the recent death?

Holly White

Holly is our sleuth, but she is also a jewelry maker, wife, and renowned sleuth. Now, after last year’s podcast, she has become quite popular. In fact, people recognize her and ask for her autograph. She has a bit of extra cash to spend on Christmas gifts. However, Holly is having a hard time staying out of the comings and goings of the townsfolk, especially those in town for the antiques road show.

I like Holly and understand what she is going through. Also, I get her frustration with her family and friends. Sometimes other people, no matter how close they are to you, need to mind their own business. Holly is a capable woman with a fantastic upbringing who can handle her own affairs. One thing I like about her is that she sees the good all around her.

The Mystery

Mistletoe, Maine, is again swamped with tourists; this year, they are in town for the last stop of the antiques road show. One of the town’s new residents, who is from Sweden, has inherited some Yule goats. Apparently, these can be worth quite a bit of money. The restaurant’s owner and the owner of the Yule goats are among Holly’s friends. After the town’s progressive dinner, Holly circles back to check on her friends and stumbles upon a deceased antique dealer from the road show.

There are also the thefts of those blow-up snowmen going on around town, which also intrigues Holly. And they have a puzzle in the paper’s crossword that references Holly by name. So, lots to add to the holidays in Mistletoe. And Holly is involved, even though she should be resting.

Four Stars

My rating for A Wonderful Christmas Crime by Jacqueline Frost is four stars. I really love this series. It’s always fun to return to Mistletoe, Maine, and see what Holly, Evan, and the gang are up to. I recommend these books to all the cozy readers out there.
