Summary:
Ice cream shop owner Bronwyn Crewse is in for two scoops of murder in this charming mystery from Abby Collette.
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, is gorgeous in the fall, and Bronwyn Crewse, owner of Crewse Creamery, knows just how to welcome the new season. At the annual Harvest Time Festival, residents will get a chance to enjoy hot-air balloons and hayrides, crown a new Harvest Time Festival Queen, and eat delicious frozen treats sold at Win’s freshly purchased ice cream truck. But she gets into a sprinkle of trouble when a festivalgoer is poisoned and Win is implicated.
Although the victim was a former Harvest Time Festival Queen, her once-sunny disposition had dimmed into bitterness, leaving no shortage of suspects at the festival. To clear her name before the chill of winter sets in, Win will have to investigate and hope that her detective skills won’t “dessert” her.
Character Interview with Bronwyn Crews
How did you and your author meet?
We met in South Euclid at the library. My author frequents there and I just happened to be wandering by. I told her about my ice cream shop and she insisted on finding out more about it. And eating it! She even brought her grandkids. And once she tasted my ice cream and saw what a cool, quaint little village Chagrin Fall is, she was hooked.
Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?
It was my personality. And my relentless determination, I think. She saw how hard I worked and I even after going to school to get my MBA. I think she also was impressed with my family. We are a very close-knit bunch and our business means everything to us. Plus, she couldn’t stop raving about my frozen concoctions and wanted everyone to know about them.
Do you have any friends or family helping you out?
Of course. I couldn’t do what I do without family and friends. But my two best friends, Maisie Solomon and Riya Amacarelli are the ones who help me sleuth. My mom, Ailbhe, and my grandfather, PopPop help me out at the shop.
Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full-time detective?
I’d like to think I’m not a detective at all because I have found that to be a very dangerous occupation. I am a purveyor of frozen sweet goodness. That is my full-time job, and it would be my only job if dead bodies didn’t keep dropping at my feet.
What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?
Maisie has chickenpox. It doesn’t stop her though. She is out sleuthing with a body covered in calamine lotion and opera-length gloves! It is, hands down, the funniest thing ever.
Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?
This is my third case, although I really didn’t solve the second one. I figured it out at the last minute. But even though this is my third time, I don’t think I have the hang of it yet. And I definitely will never get used to someone trying to kill me.
Do you have a gift or special talent?
I make delicious ice cream.
Who is the most important individual in your life?
That would be plural—individuals and it would be my family.
What is your ideal vacation?
In my shop’s kitchen making ice cream.
