A Heart of Ice by T.O. Griffiths has the head royal family of Splendania going in two different directions.
Will both the prince and princess of Theos keep their realm safe?
The Royal Family
The head royal family of Splendania consists of King Magnus, Queen Katarina, Princess Vanadae, and Prince Galderon. The family is split into three parts in the story until they all converge when needed. King Magnus helps his daughter get rid of an evil witch, while the prince goes off with his sword mistress to another part of the kingdom to slay an ice dragon. The queen stays behind to be there when her husband and daughter return.
The family unit is excellent, and I loved how they all protected each other when needed. My favorite member of the royal family is Princess Vanadae. She has a kind heart and doesn’t want to hurt anyone. The Princess wants world peace, but that task is way above her rank.
The Story
This book takes place right after the first one, and the group is split off to do different tasks. Mr. Griffiths had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it. I definitely didn’t expect some of the things that happened.
Four Stars
My rating for A Heart of Ice by T.O. Griffiths is four stars, and I recommend it to people who have read the first book. Tales of Splendania is one of those series where reading it from the beginning is key since many things would make sense if one did that. However, Mr. Griffiths is a great storyteller, and I was entertained throughout the tale.

Born and raised on a beautiful farm overlooking the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons on the border of Wales and England, I grew up fascinated by animals, sharks most of all. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by farm animals – including magnificent peacocks and a stunning view, which was the inspiration for the realm of Theos in Splendania.
As a boy, I used to write short stories and poems, somewhat inspired by Alice in Wonderland, winning myself the Duke of Edinburgh Award for Poetry at age 6 (still very proud of that 🤦♂️)
With a busy job in marketing, time to focus and completing the books has become a labour of love, especially as I’ve done the covers, formatting, weapon illustrations and artwork, but it’s something I’m passionate about and eager to hear what people think of the books.
The first book came into existence after my girlfriend asked me to tell her a bedtime story…though slightly different at the time, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and decided to just get it done – and now it’s an epic fantasy trilogy in the making!
I won’t be stopping after the third Tales of Splendania is completed though, I have many more ideas for books that I’m keen to get finished over the years.
