Will Sugar catch the thief?

Sugar Martin, aka Euphegenia Martin, finds herself going to London to see what this mysterious great-great-aunt could have left her. She discovers more or less that her great-great aunt left a dog everything, and Sugar has to care for said animal. Sugar agrees to more than she bargained for, but maybe moving to Devon won’t be so bad after all. I like Sugar. I feel like she needed this move more than she thought at the beginning.

The Mystery

Her aunt’s solicitor tasked Sugar to spy on a client’s houseguests to suss out who is a thief amongst them. Only reading books about mysteries doesn’t help when tasked with the real thing. I think that Sugar did a great job of being a spy within this group, figuring out who the thief was, and solving a poor guy’s murder. I’m admitting that I figured out whodunit when she found evidence contradicting what another person told her. I didn’t get the other person involved until they revealed themselves.

Five Stars

I am giving A Death in Devon by Shea MacLeod five stars and recommending it to anyone who loves a good 1940s mystery novel. I am in love with Sugar Martin and her love interest. Ms. MacLeod has a great series starter on her hands, and I can’t wait to see what other types of mischief poor Sugar Martin gets herself and Teddy into.
