Will Maggie uncover the truth?
Maggie Sullivan
Maggie Sullivan is our sleuth, and she owns the bookstore called Harbor Pages. It seems this is supposed to be her first mystery, but she already has a rapport with the sheriff, which to me means she’s solved some cases. I didn’t learn much about her personality, other than that she works at the bookstore a lot and that some of her customers talk to her. Ms. Whitford missed the ball on this sleuth.
The Mystery
Maggie Sullivan learns through the grapevine in Harbor Cove about an attack at the marina last night. A friend of hers died from an accidental drowning, which made no sense. Maggie doesn’t like how the sheriff is handling it, but she is helping him out. More like he’s actually going to her for help. I got confused about what the actual mystery was, and the scenes weren’t making much sense to me. I thought we were jumping around a lot, and we didn’t actually see Maggie really do any sleuthing.
Three Stars
My rating for The Dockside Letter by Clara Whitford is three stars, and I don’t really know if I will recommend it to anyone. I think Ms. Whitford needs to read up on some more mysteries and do some rewrites. The premise is good, but the execution is lacking. The Dockside Letter by Clara Whitford reads more like it’s supposed to be in the middle of a series than at the beginning or a part of a bigger book that just got scenes cut away.
