My Rating:
My Thoughts:
Layla, played by Erica Durance, wanted to be a professional singer but got stage fright after her dad passed away and has instead been running the family business with her mom. She is an interesting character in that she doesn’t want to be back on stage, but at the same time, she does. It’s a bizarre relationship that she has with the stage. However, Layla grows so much through the film as she learns to trust not only Spence but also herself.
Spence played by J.T. Hodges is a cowboy that wants to become a professional singer and songwriter, but no one wants to sign him. Until he sings one time with Layla, and the video goes wild online. Now, record companies are interested, but only if he sings with Layla. He is kind of a weird character as he wants to be an R&B singer but comes across as sort of a cowboy or blue-collar worker. J.T. has a great voice and does a fabulous job on stage.
Erica and J.T. have great chemistry that you can tell. The Lighthouse bar that Layla’s family owns and operates has a strange deco, but the ambiance is sweet.
This move was so much more than I expected. I loved the story, the music, characters, and New York at Christmas. Christmas Stars is a marvelous movie that reinforces the spirit of Christmas. It is now on my rewatch list.
