A Love Spells laugh-out-loud cozy paranormal romance by USA Today bestselling author Mindy Klasky

Dr. Ashley McDonnell, a witch, always knew running a hospital for paranormal creatures would be a challenge. But then she lost her magical powers. And Empire General’s operating license was put in jeopardy. And the most valuable supernatural drug in all of Washington DC was stolen from the hospital’s impermeable safe.

Now, Ash must work to regain her lost powers, even as she fights to discover who is undermining the hospital’s upcoming inspection. All of which would be a lot easier if she weren’t distracted by Secret Service agent Nick Raines, a newly turned vampire who appeared at Empire General the night everything went wrong.

How can Ash regain her magic when the vampire making her hormones hum may be the man sabotaging her career?

Non-magical witch falls for a hunky new vamp. This love story will be good.

The Witch Doctor Is In by Mindy Klasky is a sweet romance. There is also a little mystery, some bad guys, and a big pity party. This book is part of the Love Spells series of romantic comedies with paranormal twists.

Ashley McDonnell

Ashley is a top-notch witch running a one-of-a-kind hospital, Empire General in Washington DC. She has been so busy being the face of the hospital that she hasn’t taken time for herself. We all know what that can be like for us, but for Ashley, the consequences are higher. She loses her magic.

I like that Ashley is in charge and makes her own decisions. However, she lost confidence when she thought Nick was using her and gave-up, but she eventually got back to herself and was able to kick some butt.

Nick Raines

Nick is mysterious, and yet he isn’t. He is part of the Secret Service or was before being turned into a vampire. You have to read the story to find out about that.

Nick likes Ashley. He doesn’t seem to be affected by being a vampire, probably the specialized training. It just seems to make him stronger. However, he doesn’t understand the rules of his new world and in the process loses Ashley’s trust. But Nick isn’t going to let that stop him from being there for her. Isn’t that romantic? I love it. What a great guy. If only he had brought pastries.

Musker

Ashley has this lazy lizard named Musker for a familiar. Ashly tries to get Musker to be her assistant, but Musker rebels by sleeping in her fancy bathroom with the heat cranked up. It makes sense, seriously a lizard in Washington DC. The poor little darling must be freezing. Right? Still, he is a great character.

Rebecca Sartain

Rebecca “Becs” is Ashley’s warder. She protects Ashley, a bodyguard of sorts. My favorite thing about Becs is she is smart, and this girl can fight. She has Ashley’s back. They have been friends for a very long time and know each other well.

These are the main four characters, but we also saw some characters from Night Court Ms. Klasky’s other series.

5 Stars for The Witch Doctor is In by Mindy Klasky

My rating for The Witch Doctor Is In by Mindy Klasky is five stars. I enjoyed the banter and rejoining Mindy Klasky’s crazy supernatural world hidden in plain sight in Washington DC. Oh, and I adore happy endings. The next book Fae’s Anatomy will be out this month, and I am looking forward to it.

About Mindy Klasky

Mindy Klasky

USA Today bestselling author Mindy Klasky learned to read when her parents shoved a book in her hands and told her she could travel anywhere in the world through stories.  She never forgot that advice.

Mindy’s travels took her through multiple careers.   After graduating from Princeton University, Mindy considered becoming a professional stage manager or a rabbi.  Ultimately, she settled on being a lawyer, working as a litigator at a large Washington firm.  When she realized that lawyering kept her from writing (and dating and sleeping and otherwise living a normal life), Mindy became a librarian, managing large law firm libraries.  Mindy now writes full time.

For years, Mindy’s dating life was a travel extravaganza as well.  She balanced twenty-eight first dates in one year, selecting eligible gentlemen from sources as varied as Washingtonian magazine ads, Single Volunteers of D.C., and supposedly-certain recommendations from best friends.  Ultimately, she swore off the dating scene entirely.  After two years of carefully-enforced datelessness, she made one last foray onto Match.com, where she met her husband on her first match.

Mindy’s travels have also taken her through various literary genres.  In addition to her cozy paranormal romances and category romances, Mindy has written traditional fantasy novels (including the award-winning, bestselling The Glasswrights’ Apprentice), short stories, and nonfiction essays.  As Morgan Keyes, Mindy writes for middle grade readers. Mindy has been awarded the Career Achievement Award by the Washington Romance Writers.

In her spare time, Mindy quilts, knits, and tries to tame her endless to-be-read shelf.  Her husband and cats do their best to fill the left-over minutes.
