The Navigator’s Daughter by Nancy Cole Silverman is a marvelous mystery about a daughter getting to know her father’s history.
Will Kat find what her dad is looking for in his past?
Kat’s father receives letters regarding a plane he jumped out of in Hungary during World War II. Steve then enlists his daughter’s help to fly over and see the aircraft. However, he wants Kat to find her namesake Katarina and her son, Adolph. Kat attempts to do this for her dad after a bit of persuasion.
Kat is an imperfect heroine, which makes her brilliant. She is stronger than she believes, but she doubts herself. Kat is also highly suspicious of almost everyone. Since she is a reporter, Kat sees things that make her not trust easily. I like Kat. I would be friends with her. As for her soon-to-be ex-husband, he is a jerk.
The Mystery
Kat is convinced that everyone in Hungary has an ulterior motive. She feels as though she is being followed or watched. Kat meets quite a few people; most are friendly and just trying to make a living, while others are questionable. My favorite part is the descriptions of the area and the stories that Kat is told about her father. So many injustices were done to the citizens of Hungary and the Jewish population during that war and after. This book touches lightly on them while being respectful and fictional.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and love that the author includes a note about how she came up with the idea. My rating for The Navigator’s Daughter by Nancy Cole Silverman is five stars. Ms. Silverman is on my list of favorite authors. I know you think the list is long, but she is one of them. I highly recommend this story. Now, I am off to read the next book in the series.
