The Baroness’ Choices of New Books Publishing This Week

2024, Week 9’s New Books

My choices for this week include Paranormal Romantic Comedy, Cozy Culinary Mysteries, MG, MG Mythology, Crime Thriller, Sweet Romantic Suspense, and Cozy Paranormal Mystery.

Just four more days until it’s March! February is almost over, which means we are even closer to that spring weather that we were promised! How are you liking the year 2024 so far? I think it is having an identity crisis and possibly thinks it’s 2022.

All that kidding aside, I have two books that I am reading from this list. One review is out already, and the other won’t be out until the first full week of March.

Here are my choices for New Books Publishing Week 9 of 2024!

How to Fake It With A Fae by Amy Boyles How to Fake It With A Fae by Amy Boyles

Seven Suitors For Seven Witches #1

Publication Date: February 25, 2024

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Comedy

Goodreads | BookBub | StoryGraph | Amazon

A broody fae king bent on revenge meets his match in this hilarious modern romance.

Book lover Addison Thornrose can match you with your next perfect read. Unfortunately, she can’t match herself with a good man. Her latest just dumped her. Worse, she’s learned that unless she marries, and quickly, her family will lose their witch magic—forever.

Feylin, king of the fae, has no interest in romance. In fact, the only thing he’s interested in is getting revenge on the Thornrose family for ruining his life. So when he learns that they’re holding a Bridgerton style ball to marry off their oldest daughter, Addison, he sees an opportunity for vengeance.

But what Feylin doesn’t expect is to start falling for Addison. And worse, he really doesn’t expect it when ancient fae magic binds them together.

His solution is to strike a bargain—be in a fake relationship. Just until they can break the spell between them, and just until he can get his revenge.

For Addison, this is a dream come true! She doesn’t want to be pawned off to a line of suitors, and she certainly doesn’t want to be engaged. But between the spine-tingling fake dates and the tension-infused banter, lines begin to blur. And Addison begins to wonder when her heart will stop faking it and her feelings become real.

This grumpy/sunshine witch romcom features a ballroom dance complete with frilly gowns, a magical bookshop, a tight-knit family, sisterhood, and of course, the promise of true love. It’s the first in a series of stand-alone romances.

Unstuck by Barbara DeeUnstuck by Barbara Dee

Publication Date: February 27, 2024

Genre: Middle Grade

Goodreads | Bookhype | BookBub | StoryGraph | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Nook

From critically acclaimed author Barbara Dee comes a middle grade novel about a girl whose struggles with anxiety and writer’s block set off unexpected twists and turns, both on and off the page.

Lyla is thrilled when her seventh-grade English language arts class begins a daily creative writing project. For the past year, she’s been writing a brilliant fantasy novel in her head, and here’s her chance to get it on paper! The plot to Lyla’s novel is super complicated, with battle scenes and witches and a mysterious one-toed-beast, but at its core, it’s about an overlooked girl who has to rescue her beautiful, highly accomplished older sister.

But writing a fantasy novel turns out to be harder than simply imagining one, and pretty soon Lyla finds herself stuck, experiencing a panic she realizes is writer’s block. Part of the problem is that she’s trying to impress certain people—like Rania, her best friend who’s pulling away, and Ms. Bowman, the coolest teacher at school. Plus, there’s the pressure of meeting the deadline for the town writing contest. A few years ago, Lyla’s superstar teen sister Dahlia came in second, and this time, Lyla is determined to win first prize.

Finally, Lyla confides about her writing problems to Dahlia, who is dealing with her own academic stress as she applies to college. That’s when she learns Dahlia’s secret, which is causing a very different type of writer’s block. Can Lyla rescue a surprisingly vulnerable big sister, both on the page and in real life?
