March Book Haul 2018

March Book Haul 2018 is my Birthday book haul

Okay so my birthday was on March 19 and I was given six really great books. What better present could a book blogger/book lover like me could ask for? I am very excited to show you the books I got this year. I also can’t wait to read them even though I have like a gazillion books ahead of it. So this is my March Book Haul 2018 post.

Book 1

March Book Haul 2018

The Named

by Marianne Curley
Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens on January 1st 2002
Pages: 333

Ethan lives a secret life as a Guardian of the Named. Under the guidance of Arkarian, his mentor, and with the help of Isabel, his unlikely but highly capable apprentice, Ethan has become a valued member of this other-worldly corps. As the only defense against the evil Order of Chaos, the Named travel through time to prevent the Order from altering history and thereby gaining power in the present and the future.

As the threat from the Order intensifies, secrets of the past are revealed and villains and heroes are exposed. This gripping fantasy is set in modern times, but is infused with intrigue from the past, super-natural characters and surprising plot twists. Curley has written a winner through to the end.

The Named by Marianne Curley was published in the year 2002. I have been wanting to read it for a while. I should have just gotten my own copies way before now but that is how it goes. This one sounds really good and I can’t wait to see what Marianne Curley does with this book and the other three as well. The Named was republished in 2005. This book also has a different cover than the one I am providing with the book information. This picture of the book I am providing is the original cover that it was first published with.

Book 2

The Dark

by Marianne Curley

Isabel and Ethan are joined by Isabel's brother Matt, who is still getting accustomed to life in the Guard. This time, they must find Arkarian, their ageless mentor, who has been kidnapped and sent to the underworld. Although Isabel and Ethan have been forbidden to rescue him, an ever-increasing connection to Arkarian drives Isabel to convince Ethan and Matt that they must risk everything to find him despite the potential consequences.

The Dark by Marianne Curley was published in the year 2003. Just like the first book I have been wanting to read this one for a while. This one I believe picks up right off with where the last one ends. At least that is what I think from reading the plot summaries of these two books. The Dark sounds like a pretty good book that I can’t wait to read. The Dark was republished in 2005. This book also has a different cover than the one I am providing with the book information. This picture of the book I am providing is the original cover that it was first published with.

Book 3

The Key

by Marianne Curley
Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens on April 12th 2011
Pages: 416

The battle to protect the future is coming to an end as the evil Order of Chaos launches their final attack on the Named. To defeat the Order, the Named must locate the Key to a treasury of weapons hidden somewhere in the ancient city of Atlantis. The race is on to capture the Key before a horde of undead soldiers find it. And as the Named work against time, one of their own is plotting against them.
"Enormously imaginative." -VOYA

The Key by Marianne Curley was published in the year 2005. Just like the first two book I have been wanting to read this one for a while. This one just like with book 2 is right after the last one. I might be off on that one since I haven’t read these books yet but I believe they are all back to back. Like I said I could be wrong though. The Key sounds like a fun read that the first two books help bring this one forward. The Key was republished in 2006. This book also has a different cover than the one I am providing with the book information. This picture of the book I am providing is the original cover that it was first published with.

From bestselling author Marianne Curley comes the highly anticipated return to the Guardians of Time Series…

The battle is over. The war is won. The prophecy complete.

But life can’t just pick up where it left off for Ethan. Struggling to cope with the death of his soul-mate, at odds with his friends in the Guard, he finds himself adrift, jumping at shadows and sensing someone who can’t possibly be there.

Blaming herself for Lathenia’s death, Jesilla swears to avenge her mother and fulfil her vision for world domination. But she hadn’t planned to fall in love. And that leaves her with an unbearable choice – should she follow her heart or the parental strings of a Goddess, short on praise but high on expectation, who continues to pull on her from the grave?

As the Guard and the Order battle through the past and into an impossible future, darkness lurks around every corner. The fight for the world’s survival will rest with just one.

Is it friend or foe that stands in The Shadow?

The Shadow by Marianne Curley that was recently published earlier this month. I am excited to say that this book is the reason why I got the first three. Now, I can finally see why they grabbed my older sister’s attention when I was only in middle school. This book takes off after I guess what happened in the last book and  I can’t wait to read all four of these books. Marianne Curley has been a favorite author of mine since Old Magic.

Kalona's Fall

FROM WARRIOR AND LOVER TO ENEMY AND BETRAYER, THE TERRIBLE SECRETS OF KALONA'S PAST ARE REVEALED He was laughing with her as he spread his wings and lifted her from the ground, twirling her.
Nyx gasped and clutched his neck. Kalona tightened his arms around her.
"Trust me, Goddess. I would never let you fall."

From the Sun and from the Moon, two winged brothers are born: golden Erebus, playmate and friend, and mysterious Kalona, Warrior and lover, companions of the Goddess Nyx.

From the first, Nyx loves them both deeply, but differently. With Erebus, she can talk and laugh and dance, and take joy in the games he plays among the humans of the Earth. With Kalona, the fire in her body burns bright, and she can rest in the solace of his strength and protection. But for Kalona, Nyx's nights are not enough. Every second he is not with her he is filled with doubt and longing, and every time he fails to please her, he cannot forgive himself. Ruled by anger and jealousy of his brother, and consumed by his love for his Goddess, Kalona seeks the power to prove his worth, and to claim once and for all that Nyx eternally belongs to him.

And at the edges of the Earth, a Darkness is stirring, waiting for its chance, for the doorway in through a heart that it knows will welcome it...

Kalona’s Fall by PC and Kristin Cast is the last book in their House of Night Novella series. I can’t wait to read this one as I read the other three before I started this blog. This book tells about how Kalona fell and maybe after he fell too. Either way, it will be interesting to see about this book.

Also in this series: Loved, Lost

It’s Zoey’s eighteenth birthmas and the Nerd Herd has been scattered across the country busily adulting for almost a year when Stark calls them back to Tulsa to surprise Z. But all is not well in T-town. Strange, dark signs are appearing—could it be possible Neferet is stirring? Not willing to chance disaster striking again, Zoey calls on her newly reunited friends to circle with her and add a layer of protection over Neferet’s grotto jail. Easy-peasy, right?

Wrong. Nothing at the House of Night is ever as it seems.

With rabid red vampyres closing in, Zoey and the Nerd Herd must come together again and battle evil. But a year is a long time. Have these old friends grown too far apart?

When the world fractures and allies become enemies, will darkness devour friendships or will light save those she’s loved?

Loved by PC and Kristin Case is the first book in their new series within the House of Night world called House of Night Other World. In this one, it takes up a bit after the last book Redeemed. It’s Christmas time in this book and hopefully, nothing bad is actually going to happen. I know my past reviews for the mother and daughter duo haven’t been good, however, I can’t wait to read this one. This one sounds pretty good and I am really looking forward to reading it. Here is my review of the last book in case you wanted to know what happened.

About Marianne Curley

I got this biography of Marianne Curley from her Goodreads account:

I loved reading from a young age and scoured my school libraries during my younger years, but I never thought I would become a writer. It was not until my mid-thirties while teaching office studies and computers to adults at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus that I began to think seriously about writing. I took several courses and experimented with different styles and genres. With two teenage daughters at the time, I fell into writing young adult paranormal and have never looked back.

My first four novels, Old Magic, The Named, The Dark and The Key, were published by Bloomsbury Publishing in Australia, the UK, and the USA, with translations into more than a dozen foreign languages.

In 2004, just as The Key was being prepared for printing, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone marrow cancer called Myelofibrosis. With only a short time to live, I was given a stem-cell bone marrow transplant using my sister’s cells, which saved my life. I have now been cancer free for fourteen years and have written a new trilogy called The Avena Series. All three books – Hidden, Broken and Fearless were published between 2013 and 2015.

My latest book is The Shadow, the long-awaited and much anticipated fourth book in The Guardians of Time Series. The Shadow will be released in March 2018.

I am presently working on a YA paranormal/time travel story, and a contemporary novel based on real events.
