An icy cold murder and a library patron collide in Holly Danvers' second Lakeside Library Mystery.

A glowing wood stove, a cozy log cabin, and shelves full of books are all Rain Wilmot needs to ride out the Wisconsin winter, now that she's made her family's Lofty Pines library her year-round home. But the warm-hearted librarian's blood runs cold when local man, Wallace Benson, is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree.
After Benson's body is found in his ice shanty, Rain recalls that she recently saw the victim in her library, borrowing a few cookbooks to prepare for the fishing tournament's communal "chili dump." She later finds these same books returned to the library's drop box, with an enigmatic note from Benson to Rain.
As Rain seeks to understand the message, the prime suspect becomes Rain's friend Nick, who was the last person to see Wallace alive and who returned to the Jamboree with a nasty cut on his hand. The knife found in his tackle box only makes Nick's troubles worse. But Rain keeps fishing for other suspects. Was the killer Danny, who lost his arm to a logging accident involving Wallace? Or Danny's bitter father, whose dreams of retirement were dashed by his son's accident?
With the help of her friends Julia and Jace, Rain sets out to hook the real culprit and clear Nick's name. But can her sleuthing skills protect her from a killer who'd like to take her out of circulation?

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers is a fabulous tale of ice fishing gone wrong. I love all of it, including the blizzards.

Will Rain and Julia figure out who the killer is before Nick is on trial for murder?

Our Sleuths

Rain Wilmot and Julia Reynolds are out to figure out who killed Wallace Benson before Julia’s husband is convicted of Wallace’s murder. These two get into so much trouble. Julia is the instigator, but Rain goes along even when she doesn’t feel right about it. Hopefully, soon Rain will begin to trust her feelings.

Rain has lots going on, as she has opened the library for the winter, which means that she needs a better heating system. So, she orders a stove from Wright Installation. When Ryan stops to install the stove, Rain’s heart is aflutter. But does she still have feelings for Jace, and when will these feelings about Max stop? Rain has lots to think about, as she is taking care of Julia.

Julia is beside herself with worry over Nick’s arrest for Wallace’s death. She knows that Nick would never hurt someone like that, but how can she prove it? Julia drags Rain all over town, questioning people and having meltdowns when people won’t talk about Wallace. She even accuses Seth, their good friend. It’s good that she stays with Rain because Julia is not herself.

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library CRThe Mystery

Wallace Benson meets Rain for the first time, and the next day is found dead in his ice fishing shanty, and Julia’s husband is the prime suspect. Wallace seems like a nice guy, but he obviously has issues like everyone else. As the girls find out more about Wallace, they are more confused about why anyone would want him dead. I figured out this one early on, but I was still trying to find the opportunity that eventually shows up.

These ladies need to get with the cellular phone plan. One has an old phone that hardly gets reception, and the other one leaves her phone in the house, truck, or wherever, just not with her. If you are going to confront a killer, you should have your phone on you. Right?

Five Stars

I really enjoyed Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers, and my rating is five stars. I loved the first book, but this one is even better. I highly recommend this book and series to all. It’s Wisconsin at its best.
