Holly Kerr-About the Author Header

This month I am featuring the authors of the Oceanic Dreams romantic comedy series.

Our first author is Holly Kerr.

I was recently introduced to Holly Kerr when I learned about the Oceanic Dreams romantic comedy series. The series is about finding love on the Oceanic Aphrodite or so the legend goes. I am looking forward to reading the eight books.

Are you ready to learn more about Holly? Well, here we go.

Personal

Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?

I live in Toronto now but I grew up in the country. And not only am I a country girl at heart, but I grew up on a farm. Horses, cows, pigs – the whole deal!

What inspired you to start writing?

I don’t remember a time when I didn’t write. I was inspired to start publishing because I stopped working when I had my kids. They were really good nappers and I needed something to do, so I would write while they slept. And then when they got older and went to school, I got more serious about it.

Who is your favorite author?

I can’t pick!  Let’s go with my British Three – Jane Austen, J.K. Rowling, and Jilly Cooper.

What book are you currently reading?

I found my latest read at the library– The Undead Girl Gang by Lilly Anderson. It’s YA and a lot of fun.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To fly, because it would be fun to zip around like that!

Who is your favorite superhero?

Captain America because of Chris Evans. And Wonder Woman. They’d make a cute couple, wouldn’t they?!

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before (real or imaginary)?

Imaginary? That’s fun. I’d have to say Hogwarts. But real? Greece. And more of Italy. I’ve only been to Rome, Venice, and Florence so there’s a lot more Italian wine to be discovered!

Are you a better baker or cook or take out connoisseur?

I cook. I cook pretty well, or so people other than my family tell me. And I love other people to cook for me

Which do you prefer?

Tea or coffee: Tea

Hot or cold: I’m ok with heat but not humidity

Movie or book: Book, but I love movies so can I say both?

Coke or Pepsi: Pepsi!!!!

Writing/Books/Series

What do you love most about your writing process?

I love the revising process when you have a really good rough draft and go back through it adding and deleting to make it great.

Do you like music or silence?

Music, all the time

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?

I have no control over them. My characters do what they want.

What is knocks you off your writing game?

When my kids interrupt. I love being home with them, but they have no concept of my process. It doesn’t matter if I’m in the middle of the biggest scene in the book if they want to tell me something, they do. Its school break now, so this should be fun!

Is anything in your book based on real-life experiences or purely all imagination?

There is always something real in my books – either something that happened to me or someone I know

If you could spend time a character from your books whom would it be?

I think I would pick Pippa from my last Charlotte Dodd book, and Siggy, from I Saw Him Standing There

And what would you do during that day?

Get into trouble!

What genres do you write?

I write rom-com, chick lit and women’s fiction. And I’ve written two middle school books and planning on one more. I also write more adult romance under a pen name

What made you and the other Oceanic Dreams authors choose the Oceanic Aphrodite as the setting of your story?

Back in the early planning stages, we had thought of using a resort as a setting, but it got changed to a cruise. I’m not sure who it was to come up with that, but I’ll give Laura Heffernan credit for that because she knows a lot about cruises! I’m taking credit for the name because I thought Aphrodite would work with the legend of falling in love. Oceanic came from the TV show Lost because I’m a big fan!

What project are you working on now?

The sequel to my sweet romantic comedy, Perfectly Played.

Do you have any other books coming out this year?

Hopefully that one, as well as the third in my women’s fiction series. And I’m working on a Christmas story for my Charlotte Dodd chick lit series.

I saw Him Standing There by Holly KerrI Saw Him Standing There by Holly Kerr

Publication Date: May 20, 2019
Genre: Romantic Comedy

This stowaway sets sail for love!

Small-time con artist Siggy needs to get out of town fast. When she’s offered tickets on the legendary Oceanic Aphrodite, Siggy jumps at the chance to get away.  A week on a luxury cruise ship, with a suitcase full of clothes and all expenses paid? Yes, please! The only catch is that she has to pretend to be someone else.

No problem. Siggy has no intention of getting close enough anyone to discover her secrets.

But this is the Oceanic Aphrodite and love is in the air. When Siggy sees assistant cruise director Will taking tickets, Cupid’s arrow hits the target. Luckily, Will’s too busy smiling at her to check out her fake passport because he’ll toss Siggy off the ship if he finds out about the scam.

Onboard, dolphins and cameras and runaway ferrets bring Siggy and Will together. The more time they spend together, the more Siggy wants to tell him the truth.

Cupid’s arrow has struck deep but can Siggy stop running?
