Series: The Haunted Library Mystery #5

Author: Allison Brook

Genre: Cozy Paranormal Mystery

Pages: 320

Release Date: November 9, 2021, by Crooked Lane Books

Summary:

Librarian Carrie Singleton sleuths a murder at her best friend’s wedding in Agatha Award nominee Allison Brook’s fifth Haunted Library mystery.

Clover Ridge librarian Carrie Singleton is thrilled to attend her best friend Angela’s wedding, but Angela’s family can be a bit…much. Angela’s wealthy cousin Donna hosts an extravagant bridal shower at her resplendent home, but the celebrations turn to gossip as the guests notice Donna’s surgeon husband, Aiden, spending a bit too much time with Donna’s cousin Roxy. At the wedding reception, the sweet occasion turns darkly bitter when Aiden topples into the chocolate fountain–dead.

The suspect list is as long as the guest list, and as difficult to sort out as the seating chart. A few of the top contenders on Carrie’s suspect list are the flirtatious Roxy, emotionally unstable since her recent divorce; Angela’s grouchy brother, who feels Aiden betrayed him; and Roxy’s scorned ex-husband. Even Donna may have had reason to want her husband dead. And Aiden’s gossipy office manager has plenty to say about them all.

Then another member of Angela’s family is murdered, making Carrie more determined than ever to find the killer. Can library ghost Evelyn and library cat Smoky Joe help Carrie solve the murders before she becomes the next of Angela’s wedding guests to head to the grave?

Interview with Carrie Singleton

How did you and your author meet?

My name is Carrie Singleton. I met Allison Brook in DEATH OVERDUE, the first book in the Haunted Library series. I’m the main character in the series. Almost wasn’t because I’d just decided to leave town. But I was offered the position of head of programs and events at the Clover Ridge library and I ended up staying. Boy, am I glad that I did!

Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?

Maybe because once I got my new job I started making changes in my life. I made new friends and got interested in a guy and found myself involved in a current and cold case murder.

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

I’ve been real lucky to have friends and family helping me out, something I didn’t have much of growing up in my dysfunctional family. My Great-Aunt Harriet and Great-Uncle Bosco are loving and supportive; my best friend Angela works in the library with me; and Dylan Avery, my significant other, is the love of my life.

Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full time detective?

I’m the head of programs and events at the Clover Ridge Library. Somehow I often find myself investigating homicide cases.

What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?

The funniest thing happens at the end of the book. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal it as it involves the murderer.

Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?

I’ve solved other cases, starting with the two in DEATH OVERDUE, the first book in the Haunted Library series.

Do you have a gift or special talent?

I can see and talk to Evelyn Havers, the ghost that haunts the Clover Ridge Library. The only other person who can see and communicate with Evelyn is my little cousin Tacey.

Who is the most important individual in your life?

My significant other, Dylan Avery, is the most important person in my life.

What is your ideal vacation?

I’d love to take a month off to travel around Europe with Dylan.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

I love my life, but sometimes it gets too hectic. I’d love to have a little less excitement in my life.
