Interview with Addison Keller

How did you and your author meet?

My author was contemplating writing a book about a terrorist attack on a railroad. It was the perfect book for her to write, because her husband works for a railroad, so she would have all of his firsthand experience to rely on. That’s when I poked my nose in with a gentle reminder that writing something so accurate might not be a good idea. What if someone used any of that information to commit a crime? Then she took that idea one step further. What if a killer recreated the crimes from a story in exact detail, then engaged the author in a game of her own creation? My story unfolded from there.

Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?

Honestly, I wouldn’t leave her alone. I pestered her while she was trying to write her other books, no matter that she was on a tight deadline. Eventually, she got tired of listening to me, gave in, and wrote my story.

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

Maris, my sister, is the only family I have, and we haven’t spoken in quite some time. My ex-husband made sure all of my friends deserted me during our bitter divorce. Now, I’m left with only a stranger, who doesn’t like me, to depend on if I’m going to survive.

Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side, or are you a full-time detective?

I work full-time as a writer now. And I have no interest in investigating anything, until a killer starts recreating the murder scenes from my book and challenges me to find him before he can kill me or someone I love. Aside from that, I like to keep my investigation fictional.

What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?

Apparently Jace has spent too much time feeling sorry for himself and not enough time working out. When a kid goes on the run, Jace is left huffing and puffing rather than arresting him.

Have you solved other cases, or is this your first one?

This is my first, and I do hope my last. Unless it’s fiction, then I’m all for it, because I do love plotting and solving fictional murders.

Do you have a gift or special talent?

The only special gift I have, other than convincing myself everything is okay when it’s clearly not, is writing. Of course, now that I think about it, I guess those are kind of the same, since they’re both creating fiction.

Who is the most important individual in your life?

I never thought I’d say this, but at the moment, it’s Jason Montana, since he’s the only hope I have of staying alive.

What is your ideal vacation?

Anywhere warm and sunny where I can lay on the beach, relax, read, and plot my next murder.

If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?

If I could turn back time and keep a killer from murdering women I basically chose by writing about them, I would do that in a heartbeat.
