Is Felicity to blame when a hotel guest drowns after eating her enchanted cookies? Felicity Jin returns in the third installment of the Magical Fortune Cookie series.

A group of high school alumnae reunite years later and reserve rooms at Pixie Inn for an extended retreat. As part of their pampering package, Felicity delivers a scrumptious assortment of enchanted pastries, including her new almond cookies.

But the queen bee of the group is soon found dead in her bathroom, drowned in the tub, and she recently sampled the delicious baked goods. Could Felicity’s almond cookies have set off a fatal nut allergy? The enchanted pastries are supposed to bring joy, not sorrow―and certainly not death.

Boyfriend, Kelvin Love, is eager to assist, although odd things have been happening to his senses ever since he baked with Felicity. Will his extra sensitivity help or hinder the investigation? Plus, special bunny Whiskers lends a magical paw to the detecting since Felicity can’t and won’t relax until she restores both order and magic to her world.

Tell-Tale Treats by Jennifer J. Chow is a perfect summer read.

Will Felicity figure out what happened to the Queen-B?

Felicity Jin

In this installment, there are a few small changes, mostly to Felicity’s relationship with Kelvin and, of course, the newest baked good. Otherwise, our baker/sleuth is back to finding clues that no one else thinks to look for. As she has proven, sometimes the easiest answer isn’t the actual truth.

I enjoy Felicity and her family. It is fun to see the friendship between her mom and Detective Sun growing. I think the Detective needed a place to ground herself. Oh, boy did she find a place with Felicity’s mom, godmother, and Kelvin.

Our Mystery

You wouldn’t think there would be a lot of red herrings since the ladies were supposed to be having a lock-in. But each of them, plus some others, have motives. With Kelvin’s help, Felicity breaks it down until she figures out what is happening. Ms. Chow executes the clues perfectly. I didn’t see it until Felicity did. Oh, and the unusual pets in this one. Who knew you could train a rat like that?

Five Stars

My rating for Tell-Tale Treats by Jennifer J. Chow is five stars. I love the series. The small town with the grapevine that works at warp speed is wonderful. If you are looking for a cozy with a touch of paranormal, I recommend this one.

The story includes a recipe from the bakery, floral tips from Love Blooms, and a little something from the candle shop too. You’ll have to read the book to check them out.
