A vampire who can’t remember his past and a witch with secrets of her own hit the road in this zany, cross-country romantic comedy from beloved author Jenna Levine.
Reformed bad witch Grizelda “Zelda” Watson had hoped to never see another vampire again when she slipped away to sunny California for a fresh start. She'd grown tired of them and their nonsense ages ago. But when a vampire with amnesia unexpectedly shows up on her doorstep with a letter from her old friend Reggie, and asks for her help, she can’t say no. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Peter Elliott is tall and gorgeous, looks great in yoga shorts, and has the kind of dark hair and surly expression Zelda’s been a sucker for for hundreds of years.
Peter isn’t completely harmless—he is fanged, after all—but he’s harmless enough, and soon becomes the only person in Zelda’s new life who knows the truth about what she is. If she can help him decipher the cryptic notes in his journal, the only clues to his lost memories, she might as well try before sending him on his way.
But when an alarming message from Peter's past coincides with a clear sign that Zelda can't keep running from her own, they embark on a cross-country road trip for answers—only to find what they're looking for in each other.
Road Trip with a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a magical romance.
Will Zelda and Peter give in to their mutual connection?
Zelda
Our heroine is Zelda, a four-hundred-year-old witch turned yoga teacher. A few years ago, she left her friends and moved across the country to find a better place for herself. A place where no one knew who she was or what she is. Zelda seems to be doing well, but is she really? She was suppressing a big part of herself and hiding from her new friends. It felt like she was just going through the motions to me. After she meets Peter, she seems to light up. But figuring out how to be with him won’t be easy.
I like Zelda, but she really hasn’t explored herself in all of her four hundred years. I felt like she was just doing what others expected of her. Although I could be wrong, as four hundred years is a long time, and I am sure things were different when she was younger.
Peter
Our hero, Peter, has a dark side, not just that he is a vampire, but that he is a vamp-for-hire type of guy. He also can’t remember anything and is sent to Zelda for help figuring out who he is. There are so many things about Peter, but he seems genuine with Zelda. It felt like he needed to lose his memories to find who he really is now.
Peter is a strange guy, but I like that he really puts himself out there for Zelda and tries to prove his love to her.
Four Stars
My rating for Road Trip with a Vampire by Jenna Levine is four stars. I enjoyed the read, and wow, it’s spicy. If the Baroness rated spice, I would say this was five peppers. That said, I also liked the characters and the story. Ms. Levine does a wonderful job with the settings and the characters. This is the last book in the My Vampire Series, but if I have time, I want to read the first two as well.
