Described by the author as a modern Boxcar Children-type mystery with a fast pace, diverse characters, and life lessons.
The Jumbled Jewels by David Gorman is about four friends solving a mystery at their beloved amusement park, Waldameer.
Can Julia handle being a leader without her older brother by her side?
Julia and Seth
Seth and Julia are a brother-sister duo who solve mysteries with their friends at Waldameer—except for just one problem this time around. Julia is by herself since her brother is resting at their grandparents’ house. Julia is a great detective who just needs to get out of her head and not let those self-doubts come at her.
The Detectives
Seth and Julia have quite a few friends that they have made through their five other mysteries. Julia’s first friend on the case is Semira, who was with her when the first jewel was found. She’s from Ethiopia and loves science. The next detective is Anh, who is from Vietnam and a painter. The final detective is Gabriela, who is from Argentina. She likes to write poetry and sing. Each of the girls helps Seth and Julia with their mysteries.
I like how, no matter what, Mr. Gorman always has four detectives with the skills to help them solve cases. Julia is the leader and can devise plans to solve the case. Semira lends her expertise with science to finding the missing jewels hidden throughout the food court area of Waldameer. Both Anh and Gabriela use their strengths to find clues. These four girls make an awesome team.
The Mystery
Julia and Semira got some ice cream when Semira’s cone with a cherry on top looked slightly different from a regular cherry. The girls found out that it was a jewel instead. After finding out that the jewel was a part of a group of jewels worth a lot of money, Julia enlists Anh and Gabriela to help solve the case. The four girls started gathering the jewels, and by assisting the police, they found out that the jewel thieves were still looking for them. The four detectives helped both the FBI and their local police department in setting up a trap for the thieves.
Five Stars
My rating for The Jumbled Jewels by David Gorman is five stars. I also recommend his series, as they can all be read either in order or out of order. The first five of this series will be added to my TBR. Mr. Gorman is a fantastic author, and I love how he used a place that he grew up going to while also learning that his family actually owns the amusement park. To learn more about the park, you can either read the series, visit the website, or visit the place in person to get the feel of how Seth and Julia do each time they go, since their mom works there.
