Her mission: find the Lost City of the Moon in the Amazon rainforest.
His mission: protect the holy temple . . . and his heart.

While her mentor may be the world’s most badass archaeologist, the only thing bad about Dr. Miriam Jacobs are her corny jokes. But when Miri is charged with leading an unmapped expedition through the Amazon for the fabled Lost City of the Moon, she finally has her chance to prove to her colleagues that she’s capable—and hopefully prove it to herself, too.

Journalist Rafael Monfils has joined the archaeological team to chronicle their search for the lost city. Or at least, that’s what they think he’s doing. Rafa’s real goal? Make sure the team does not reach the Cidade da Lua, stopping the desecration of the holy city and protecting his mother’s legacy. All he needs to do is keep them on the wrong path.

If only the endearingly quirky Dr. Jacobs wasn’t so damn tenacious—each of Rafa’s tricks and purposeful wrong turns only seem to fuel her determination. Even worse, he’s charmed by her goofy attempts to channel Lara Croft as they traverse the dangerous Brazilian rainforest. But they’re not the only crew hunting for the lost city, and soon the untamed jungle—and their untamed hearts—might be the least of their worries...

Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura has Dr. Miriam Jacobs setting off on an adventure in the Amazon rainforest.

Will Dr. Miriam Jacobs, against all odds, find the Lost City of the Moon?

Dr. Miriam Jacobs

Dr. Miriam Jacobs is an archaeologist but doesn’t have much of anything underneath her belt. Until her mentor, Dr. Corrie Mejía, can’t leave Dr. Ford Matthews home alone with a broken arm, she puts Miri and another archaeologist as co-leaders of the expedition. The only things that Miri has any confidence in are her ability to keep talking and having snacks.

I like how, through this expedition, Miri gains the confidence that she needs to believe that she can do anything she sets her mind to and that maybe she needs to be her own self.

Rafael MonfilsTemple of Swoon CR

Rafael Monfils is a journalist tasked with this expedition to document the whole thing and take pictures. It definitely isn’t to throw the archaeological team off the track to find the lost city. Or is it? Rafe has a lot of things to unbury about himself throughout this adventure, and he finds comfort in Miri while finding out more about himself.

I have to say that I love these two, as they both complement each other in the weirdest ways. This is mainly because one wouldn’t think of a nerdy person like Dr. Miriam Jacobs to be with a hunk like Rafael Monfils. Rafa and Miri, together, will be unstoppable together.

Four Stars

My rating for Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura is four stars. I do recommend it for the adult romance readers who love a little bit of adventure mixed in with a romantic comedy. Ms. Segura brought me to the Amazon rainforest, and on this exciting adventure helping out Rafa and Miri find the Lost City of the Moon.

About Jo Segura

Jo Segura

USA Today bestselling author Jo Segura lives in the Pacific Northwest with her doggo, who vies for her attention with his sweet puppy dog eyes whenever she’s trying to write.

Jo’s stories feature strong, passionate heroines and draw upon aspects of her life, such as her love of good food and great cocktails, dancing, her Mexican heritage, and her fascination with archaeology which inspired her debut romcom, RAIDERS OF THE LOST HEART, published December 2023 by Berkley Romance, and the forthcoming sequel, TEMPLE OF SWOON (Jan. 7, 2025).

When she’s not writing you can find her practicing law, shaking up a mean cocktail, or sitting out on the patio doing Buzzfeed quizzes (though she doesn’t care what the chicken nugget quiz said–her favorite fruit is not banana).

Jo is represented by Jill Marsal at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.
