Midnight Ice by Diane Vallere is a wonderful little mystery perfect for Doris Day fans.

Will Madison figure out who is after her and why?

This is the start of the Madison Night series. Madison is our sleuth. She has headed to California to relax and unwind at the Cypress Inn in Carmel. The Cypress Inn was co-owned by Doris Day. Who happens to be Madison’s idol. All of that sounds good, but a case of mistaken identity turns her relaxing vacation into a suspense-filled stay.

I think Madison is fantastic. She is one of my favorite sleuths. Her love of Doris Day and her movies reminds me of how much I enjoyed watching them with my mom.

Madison is not Doris Day, though. She doesn’t always get the guy but stays true to herself and uses her instincts. And, of course, she has Doris Day’s fashion sense. In this prequel, Madison has snuck off to find peace and relax after a skiing accident. She is on crutches, and her luggage is lost, but she is given someone else’s luggage. With men chasing her down for unknown reasons, Madison uses what she has in her possession to disguise herself and hide in plain sight.

I love the ingenious of Madison’s character and her instinct. Madison is truly an icon in her own right.

My rating for Midnight Ice by Diane Vallere is five stars. I was completely entertained and loved the twists and turns of the mystery. I look forward to jumping back into this cozy mystery series soon.

This installment is loosely based on the movie Midnight Lace starring Doris Day from 1960.
