Interview with Kelly Silverman
How did you and your author meet?
I was actually based on a real person, so I guess you could say we met through the real Kelly! Real Kelly hosted pearl parties, too, and Nellie thought it would make a cute theme for a cozy mystery series and voila! Here I am!
Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?
Nellie loves pearls and used to attend all of the real Kelly’s pearl parties. She thought Pearl Party Mysteries sounded like a fantastic idea for a cozy craft mystery series so she started planning a mystery around a fictional pearl business that I run with my sister, Jodi (yep, the real Kelly’s pearl business included her sister, Jodi, too!).
Do you have any friends or family helping you out?
My sister, Jodi, helps me run the pearl business. We make a great team. I do all the “icky” stuff according to Jodi by shucking the oysters and removing the pearls and she does all the other stuff like keeping track of orders, working on my website, etc.
Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full time detective?
I work at a card store and run my pearl business. I really never thought I’d be a detective at all until Pearl dropped over dead at the pearl party!
What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?
This is a little embarrassing, but we were invited to that ritzy mansion for a weekend long pearl party and I brought a sweater dress to wear to the cocktail party. *Facepalm* Thankfully, Jodi had another dress for me to do a quick change in. Melissa would have fainted if she saw me in that casual outfit at her opening night cocktail party.
Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?
This is the first murder I’ve ever been personally involved in let alone solved! I never imagined to ever see a dead body until Pearl!
Do you have a gift or special talent?
Not really, unless you could shucking oysters. I’m pretty good at cracking those suckers open and fishing for the pearls inside.
Who is the most important individual in your life?
Jodi. I couldn’t run my business without her an I was *really* glad she was with me at that creepy mansion when the birthday girl was murdered!
What is your ideal vacation?
I would love to go to Scotland one day. I think it looks so beautiful and I’d love to see the castles there, too. I can’t imagine anything like that.
If you could change anything about your life what would it be?
I really wouldn’t change anything at the moment! Well, I could have done without ten people accusing me of murdering a woman I barely knew, but that’s all done and over with now. Moving upwards and onwards! Plus, I highly doubt lightning will strike twice. I mean, what are the odds I’ll land in hot water again with something like this?
