Mystery with a whiff of romance…After falling in love with the quiet lake life and a certain police detective, former Chicago Tribune reporter Emma Moore trades interviewing jocks for chasing champion cows at the county fair. As a small-town newspaper reporter, she covers local topics both big and small, but when her friend Luke is arrested for the murder of the head coach of his club softball team, she’ll need to hone her investigative skills to clear his name. Emma calls up best friend Grace for help, and together the women go up against cutthroat parents willing to kill for a chance to get their daughters onto a premier college sports team.

It’s the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded, and murder is up to bat. Can Emma and her friends bring the heat and win the game?

Murder up to Bat by Elizabeth McKenna has summer heat and softball games mixed with the perfect murder.

Did Luke kill the head coach of his club’s softball team?

Emma Moore

Emma Moore is our sleuth and is determined to make not only her boyfriend see but the whole town of Fontana that Luke Talbot is innocent. One thing that I have to say about Emma is that she is a loyal friend who will let nothing stop her from finding justice. Tenacity makes Emma a great reporter for her small town’s newspaper. Emma is a person I would like on my side if I were to get into trouble. I feel we would be friends if Emma were a real-life person.

Murder Up to Bat CRThe Mystery

Emma and her boyfriend, Ryan O’Mara, walk in on Luke Talbot holding the murder weapon with his head coach deceased on the ground in the locker room of Luke’s fitness center. Poor Ryan doing his job, arrests Luke while Emma is trying to hold everything together. By that, for Emma, I mean she is already formulating a plan to start investigating on her own when another cop shows up since Ryan is too close to Emma and Luke to do his job properly. So Emma, her best friend Grace, and a reluctant Luke start to look for other suspects. Wow, the parents of the softball players are tough on their kids and worse if they are a coach. I got who killed the head coach a second before Emma. Although I had a detail bugging me about the murderer in my head for most of the book. Thankfully I got it, though!

Five Stars

Wow, Ms. McKenna knows how to start the story going with this mystery. Murder up to Bat by Elizabeth McKenna is a great story that ended up being worth the three-year wait. I am rating Murder up to Bat by Elizabeth McKenna with five stars, and I recommend it to all you cozy readers out there. I can’t wait for more of these tales.

There is a recipe in the back of the book called Walking Tacos; apparently, it’s great for game day! It’s also featured in the book.

About Elizabeth McKenna

Elizabeth McKenna

Elizabeth McKenna’s love of books reaches back to her childhood, where her tastes ranged from Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys to Stephen King’s horror stories. She had never read a romance novel until one Christmas when her sister gave her the latest bestseller by Nora Roberts. She was hooked from page one (actually, she admits it was the first love scene). She combined her love of history, romance, and a happy ending to write Cera’s Place and Venice in the Moonlight. Her contemporary romance novel, First Crush Last Love, is loosely based on her life during her teens and twenties. The Great Jewel Robbery is her debut cozy mystery, and she hopes readers will like it as much as they have enjoyed her romances.

Elizabeth lives in Wisconsin with her understanding husband, two beautiful daughters, and a sassy Labrador. When she isn’t writing, working, or being a mom, she’s sleeping.
