She's cursed. He's dead. How far will they go to change their fates?
Princess Marilee is cursed. A mermaid by day and a human by night, she made a fateful decision that has left her trapped between two worlds.
Disgraced Prince Darius is dead. At least, that’s what he wants everyone to think when he’s thrown overboard from a prison ship.
When Marilee and Darius meet, they reluctantly make a deal—Darius will help Marilee return to her family in exchange for enough money so he can disappear forever.
A doomed woman and a condemned man. Can they find redemption, or will they be lost to an unforgiving sea?
Mazarine by Cece Louise is another great fantasy retelling that Ms. Louise has done. I like this one a great deal.
Will Marilee and Darius be able to keep things to themselves on their journey?
Princess Marilee
Princess Marilee has been cursed for a while now and wants out of it. Sadly she doesn’t know how but thinking that going home may be the answer. Marilee has things to figure out while she is out to sea with Darius. What I like about Marilee is that despite what has happened to her, she still believes that people can be saved and that everyone has a piece of good in them. They just need help to bring it out. Another thing that I like about Marilee is that she sees the good in her curse at times but not all the time. I dislike Marilee because, despite everything that Darius told her, Marilee couldn’t believe the type of ship that he was on.
Prince Darius
Prince Darius was stripped of his title and his country the last time we saw him, in the first book, and now despite all of that, he’s finally free to be a ghost. Well, that is until Marilee enlists him to help her get back home. Darius decides to help her despite not knowing if he should. Darius has his own secrets from Marilee and doesn’t want her to be scared of him.
There is a lot about Darius that has changed from Desperate Forest to Mazarine. It is a good change for him. Even though he’s been on a prison ship for three years on a life sentence and gets thrown off to fly under the radar for the rest of his life, Darius has things better than Marilee. At least he doesn’t turn into a merperson. I like Darius because he has slowly changed from the beginning of the book, and I believe that change is because of Marilee’s influence.
Five Stars
Mazarine by Cece Louise is a great retelling of The Little Mermaid without being too much like the little mermaid. I like how Ms. Louise takes aspects from these different fairy tales in each of her books while making it her own by spinning the tale to work in the world that she created in this series. Each book that Ms. Louise writes in this world makes me love them even more, and they bring me joy to see others liking them as well. Five stars and a huge recommendation for this book is what I am giving it as I’m a huge fan of this series and these books, and I want others to see them.
