Seaside Cove amateur sleuths Rick and Alexandra Atwood are back!
Seaside Cove Bed & Breakfast owner Rick Atwood is again called on to assist his friend, Chief of Police Adam Cunningham, with a murder investigation. The case seems straightforward enough. Clive Crabbe, who has a quick temper and a strong jealous streak, was found hunched over the victim after the man-made advances toward Clive’s ex-wife.
A murder investigation is the last thing Rick wants right now. The B&B is booked solid. The town is inundated with tourists and news reporters chasing stories about treasure thieves. And Rick’s wedding to Marquetta Weiss is just weeks away. As if that wasn’t enough, Rick’s eleven-year-old daughter Alex is not only itching to help the cops solve another murder, but she’s forming an unhealthy friendship with a B&B guest.
As the murder investigation progresses, Rick realizes Alex’s new friend could be at the center of everything. The worst part is that Alex may be the one person capable of cracking the case.
Treasure Most Deadly by Terry Ambrose is about a young girl and her father trying to solve another crime in their little seaside bed and breakfast.
Will Rick and Marquetta be able to keep Alex away from investigating?
Rick and Alex Atwood
Rick Atwood is the father of this duo, the owner of a bed and breakfast that he inherited. He is also a consultant for the police department when they need him. That only happens when there has been a murder. He has his eleven-year-old daughter to finish raising and to keep out of investigations. At least if he can’t keep her on the safe side of them. For Rick and Marquetta, his fiancee, that is a hard thing to do. This newest mystery tests his patience with his daughter but while seeing that she thrives on these investigations. I like Rick because, yes, he is a single father, but he has been doing his best. Instead of trying to squash his daughter’s freedom, Richard allows her to help as long as she checks in with him first.
Alex Atwood is the daughter of this duo, and she’s a helper at the bed and breakfast. She tries to help as much as she can while she’s in school and even more when Alex has something on her mind. Like solving a mystery. Alex is a great kid who is being raised in a kind and loving house. Granted, yes, she gets too involved when there is a mystery or something that she wants to help with. She is learning a lot of great things while in school and with her dad and his fiancee about rushing their wedding. Rick is definitely raising the next Nancy Drew. I like Alex because, sure, she is a kid, but she knows when something isn’t right, especially with a guest or someone they’re investigating in a mystery. Alex is a spunky young girl.
The Mystery
The mystery here involves two separate ones. The first is who tipped the news outlet about Seaside Cove’s own Flynn O’Connor trying to steal the treasure off of this shipwrecked four-hundred-year-old ship that Flynn’s been looking for for years? The other one is who did a diver piss off enough to get killed? Those were the questions running through my head as I was reading and trying to figure out who is a red herring and who is the real deal. Okay, I did fall for a red herring, but the one that I kept in the back of my head was involved. Mr. Ambrose did a terrific job of writing this one.
Five Stars
Treasure Most Deadly by Terry Ambrose is another fantastic read by this author. It kept me guessing even though one person just didn’t add up, and I just couldn’t seem to shake them off my list. I was sort of correct in that aspect, but I still loved reading this one. Mr. Ambrose wrote it so well that I didn’t want to put it down. Alex’s journal entries crack me up and especially, even more, when she has an idea in her head and won’t let it go. Treasure Most Deadly by Terry Ambrose deserves FIVE stars and a big recommendation from me, especially if you love bed and breakfasts that are on an island on the Pacific coast.
