Q & A with the awesome Tonya Kappes
First, this year I wanted to add a little more to the regular posts. So, I decided to start an “About the Author” posts. I got a hold of my favorite authors and asked them some questions.
Tonya Kappes writes fun stories, with mystery and little romance and lots of quirky characters. She has a couple of new books out now but take a look at her book, Spies & Spells, it was really great!
Below are her answers to my questions:
- What is your favorite character that you have created?
The truth is, I love each character while I’m writing them. That’s who my favorite happens to be. Then when I move on to the next novel, I swear those characters are my favorite.
- Have you created a character that is like you?
I think that each character I create has a little piece of me in each of them.
- Where was the best place that you have lived?
Nicholasville, Kentucky the small hometown where I am from. I think that’s why I write small towns because I have such fond memories.
- What is your favorite pet?
Oh…I have dogs and a cat. I love each of them in different ways.
- If you weren’t writing what would you be doing?
I’ve got two degrees from the University of Kentucky. I actually was a teacher and then a child therapist. The writing was a hobby that turned into a full-time career.
- What is your favorite book series to write so far?
It’s the same that I answered about my characters. I adore the story I’m writing at the time and so on.
- Who is your favorite author?
I seriously cannot answer that with one answer. I have a lot of friends that I adore.
- What do you like to do when not writing?
I love spending time with my family and Jazzercising. My family is the most important to my heart and anytime I can spend with them, I do.
- What would be your dream vacation?
Anywhere with a beach!
- Where do you do your writing?
I had a beautiful office on the first floor that I never use so my husband recently converted it into a first-floor laundry room. I love it. I wish I could sit in a nice office, but I don’t like being in a closed room, so I work in my kitchen during the winters where I have a big sliding glass door to gaze out and next to my pool during the summer. I’m a Pisces, so writing next to the pool is when I get my best work written.

Tonya Kappes writes a few different series, these are a few of them: Magical Cures Mysteries (one of my favorites), her new one Spies & Spells Mysteries, Ghostly Southern Mysteries (my Mom & Aunt really like this one), Laurel London Mysteries, and Olivia Davis Mysteries. I recommend that you will find at least one that you like.
