Weeks after his parents disappear on a hike, engineer Adam Carson, 27, searches for answers. Then he discovers a secret web site and learns his mom and dad are time travelers stuck in the past. Armed with the information he needs to find them, Adam convinces his younger siblings to join him on a rescue mission to the 1880s.
While Greg, the adventurous middle brother, follows leads in the Wild West, Adam, journalist Natalie, and high school seniors Cody and Caitlin do the same in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Like the residents of the bustling steel community, all are unaware of a flood that will destroy the city on May 31, 1889.
In RIVER RISING, the first novel in the Carson Chronicles series, five young adults find love, danger, and adventure as they experience America in the age of bustle dresses, gunslingers, and robber barons.

Can the Carson siblings’ find their parents before it’s too late?

River Rising by John A. Heldt is an amazing book. Which I am not surprised since I have liked all of his books. Or at least the ones that I have read. River Rising is about a group of five siblings trying to reunite with their parents who have time traveled to 1888. Of course, with this book much like the other books I have read, from this amazing author, he has done a lot of different point of views. Which I enjoyed and felt it was good especially when reading a book about five siblings and their parents. The points of views in this book are Adam, Natalie, Caitlin, Cody, Greg, and Tim.

Adam:

Adam is the oldest of the Carson siblings and the one that has been the main character in this book. I only say that because his voice is most prominent and he is the one that most of the characters go to for advice in this book. Adam is twenty-seven-years-old and is a civil engineer. He is a scientist and didn’t know what to think about his parent’s disappearance. Adam likes to plan and figure things out before he takes action. He takes what his siblings want the most to heart and tries his best to fix things.

Natalie:

Natalie is the third oldest of the Carson siblings and is a reporter. She has the second most prominent position in this book. She is one that likes to really think things through and is an optimist. Though I think she would have rather been like her brother when it came to her feelings for someone. She, like Adam, takes what her siblings want the most to heart and doesn’t do anything without consulting with them first. Well, on some things she does act on her own.

Caitlin:

Caitlin is the youngest of the Carson siblings, a twin to Cody, and is a high school student. She is the one that most people seem to overlook. She is an honors student but is also easily hurt by what her parents did. Along with somethings that have happened in the book. Caitlin is a really smart girl but unlike her siblings doesn’t really know how to make friends or even to find love interests like they all did.

Cody:

Cody is the first youngest of the Carson siblings, a twin to Caitlin, and is a high school student. Unlike his sister, he isn’t one that most people seem to overlook. Cody, I want to say, is like a mix of Adam and Greg, the reason I believe that is because yeah, he’s a wallflower like his twin and Adam but he also knows how to have a good time. He also knows how to win a lady over despite knowing that he shouldn’t get attached to someone in the past. He is a very sweet boy and one that will probably find love again soon.

Greg:

Greg is the second oldest of the Carson siblings and is one that didn’t get much attention in this book. He is a scholar type and he is twenty-five years old. He is also a high school English professor that went looking for his parents while the others stayed back. He is much like Natalie in the fact that they love to talk and get to know everyone. He does get into some trouble which makes it hard for them to accomplish what they need to. He does fall in love with someone that he knows he shouldn’t have but much like Cody, he had to leave her behind.

Tim:

Tim is the father of the Carson siblings and the main reason they are in the mess they are in. He gets the fewest chapters and I can’t wait to know if there is more of his chapters in the next book or not.

Five Stars

River Rising by John A. Heldt is another amazing read and the perfect start to another series. I can’t wait to read more of these books since it left off with a cliffhanger. I hope the next one will be just as good and that we can get at least one more character’s point of view and some more from Tim as well. I am giving this book five stars since I didn’t want to put it down and when I did I kept thinking about the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in the Carson Chronicles. There are still two other series by Mr. Heldt that I want to read as well. So many books and so little time.

Anyways until the next time enjoy this review brought to you by
