Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 5

Dust and Shadows (January 30, 2017)

Plot Summary

Each of the Shadowhunters deals with the recent attack on the Institute in their own way; Simon moves home, but finds it isn’t easy to pull off his new life with his family around.

My take on this episode:                      All of the Shadowhunters are taking the deaths of the fallen Shadowhunters terribly. Well just Alec and Clary mostly. We found out that it is possibly to bring back the dead but it isn’t always a good thing to do because of the complications by bringing something back from the dead could cause for that person or animal.

Except Clary doesn’t listen and is now in deep trouble with the one warlock she was visiting and made a deal with to bring her mother back from the dead. Jace warned her and is not very happy that she went to see a warlock to bring a person back from the dead. They also find out something new about Clary but they don’t want to tell anyone just yet because they don’t know how she has this ability or if it’s even a good thing to have. Having Valentine as their father has made them both worry about what this means.

Izzy is still dealing with a wound from a demon attack and doesn’t know what to do since she wants to go on missions without having to worry about not being able to use that one side. Aldertree gave her medicine to help especially since she wants to go see the Iron Sisters on an assignment to see with how they can stop Valentine. Except now she might be a druggie because of how addictive the medicine is which Aldertree did warn her about.

Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 4

Day of Wrath (January 23, 2017)

Plot Summary

Jace awaits his fate in the City of Bones; Clary, Alec, and Isabelle hunt a powerful demon terrorizing the Institute; Jocelyn has a proposition for Clary as Raphael and Simon ramp up their search for Camille.

My take on this episode:                      Well this episode was different than what I thought it was going to be. It’s still a good episode though and one I guess that had to happen for other characters to go a different route.

A lot has happened in this one. Especially for poor Jace who is in the City of Bones because of what his dad made him do with the help of a spellbound Clary to get him to do it. Unknowingly to Jace that this might have been a part of his father’s plan all along to get the sword.

A demon has been let loose and it’s all bad news for our shadowhunter friends especially Clary once they figure out what it’s doing. After this episode, I certainly believe that Valentine should be punished for the pain he caused everyone especially his own daughter.

This episode has deferred from the books a bit but that might have been done intentionally for this episode since technically it has for the character’s ages and for overall so far of this season.

There was twists and turns that have left me wondering if this is how Clary and Simon get together is through with what happened in this episode? Guess I will find out in the next episode.

Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 3

Parabatai Lost (January 16, 2017)

Plot Summary

Jace’s situation worsens when he becomes a target for the New York wolf pack, who believes that he is a killer; Raphael pressures Simon to find Camille.

My take on this episode:                      This is the first episode with recaps from this season. It picks up the next day after Clary and Jace jumped off the barge and into the ocean.

Immediately after that Jace is on the run from four groups. The Clave, Luke’s pack, the police, and of course Valentine’s people. Each group because of something that he has upset them. Of course during all of this Alec is still not doing well and that is also with why Isabelle is also after Jace because he is the only one that can help Alec.

Clary and her problems are actually put on the back burner during this episode.

Simon is still having Raphael going after him to get Camille since he is one of her only sires that haven’t joined her into taking down Raphael. Raphael has actually hit pretty low on the way of getting Simon to help him by going after his family.

Humanity hasn’t been alone for almost two thousand years. Elves, wolves, vampires, all joined together with mankind to eradicate the ‘darker’ races and maintained a tentative peace until modern times. Society adapted, everyone has rules that help keep the peace in this modern era. Yet, absolute genocide is impossible when talking about creatures beyond the pale. Some hid, some buried, other were re-purposed.
Some, like Jay Fields, pass for human with a little bit extra. His abilities didn’t belong to one of the major races, but any information was buried along with the long dead boogie men. All Jay cared about was those closest to him and a job that let him hit people. He used to be a bouncer at a bar, a part-time enforcer for a loan shark, and even a fight club champion. That was four years ago, before betrayal by someone close sent him packing.
Now he’s back and trying to recover a life he left behind. Questions of origin aren’t his only problems. His ex-girlfriend is a vampire. His part-time boss doesn’t think he’s up to snuff anymore. There’s a missing elf who might have some answers, and Jay’s best friend is caught up in something dangerous…

The story begins with the return of Jay Fields, although he uses other names to make finding him harder. Jay has been traveling around for the last 4 years and lots of things at home have changed and some have stayed the same.

Jay likes to hit people, he is like an enforcer. Basically, he does what he knows best to make a living. Jay is also a collector and he is pretty possessive when it comes to his treasures, really all things that he considers his. Jay is human with a few added abilities, due to a vampire bite when he was young or is he? Jay uses his ability to track down people who owe his boss Julianne money, he gets the money, something of value or he may teach them a lesson. Jay also rents an apartment from Julianne and works as a bouncer at her bar.

Throughout the book, we learn more and more about Jay’s actual origin. However, Jay can’t remember and the clues lead him to things that don’t make sense and yet seem familiar. Jay is tough and can hold his own against vampires, wolves, fairies and humans. We meet the people of his life. They are a strange group of individuals. There are lots of secrets that seem like only Jay doesn’t know.

Jay’s ex-girlfriend is Kahina, she is a vampire who hasn’t finished the transformation yet. She loves purple and apparently still loves Jay. She seems kind of pushy, yet she is there when he needs her.

Then there is Julianne, she is my favorite. She is tiny and still human. She runs the bar with no nonsense and a smart mouth. Julianne comes from the wolf pack, she just hasn’t transformed into a wolf. Her grandfather is the head of the pack and tolerates her bar and bookie business. Julianne cares about Jay, more than he realizes. She protects him and calls an intervention to help him. I love the way she and her brother banter back and forth. Julianne is one tough cookie.

What I like about the story is the way the author portrays the characters. There are the four main races who eradicated all the other races for peace and yet there are still the prejudice and fight for power, the secrets about the races eradicated and lost history. It proves that no matter what race you are, it’s what is inside you and how you treat your friends and family that matter.

My rating for this book is 4 stars. If you like to read fantasy, with a modern urban flair, I recommend this book, Once Lost Lords by Stephan Morse. This is the first book in what looks to be an exciting series, The Royal Scales. The second book in the series is also available so you won’t have to wait to continue with the story, Lady’s First Knight.

Shadowhunters Part 13Shadowhunters 1.13

Episode: Morning Star

Plot Summary

Jace makes the search for Valentine his main priority as he continues to reel from recent events; Clary and Simon’s efforts to unlock Jocelyn’s coma may impact the Downworlder peace treaty and Simon’s relationship with Raphael.

My take on this episode:          We start off this episode with a little bit of what happened in the last few episodes. Then we start the episode with them in their clothes from Lydia and Alec’s wedding, that never happened.

This episode was really good and is now one of my best/hated episode. Best because it was soo good and hated because it’s the last one until next year for season two. This whole episode is us seeing Jace battling against himself about being the son that Valentine raised and the one that was part of the Lightwoods family, who loves Clary.

While Clary and Simon go off with Isabelle and Alec’s help with finding the Book of White to wake up Jocelyn. Everything happened pretty fast in this episode but it was really good and I can’t wait for next season. Some nagging questions are answered but these are replaced with new questions. Hopefully, the answers to the new questions will be answered next season.
