Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 4

Day of Wrath (January 23, 2017)

Plot Summary

Jace awaits his fate in the City of Bones; Clary, Alec, and Isabelle hunt a powerful demon terrorizing the Institute; Jocelyn has a proposition for Clary as Raphael and Simon ramp up their search for Camille.

My take on this episode:                      Well this episode was different than what I thought it was going to be. It’s still a good episode though and one I guess that had to happen for other characters to go a different route.

A lot has happened in this one. Especially for poor Jace who is in the City of Bones because of what his dad made him do with the help of a spellbound Clary to get him to do it. Unknowingly to Jace that this might have been a part of his father’s plan all along to get the sword.

A demon has been let loose and it’s all bad news for our shadowhunter friends especially Clary once they figure out what it’s doing. After this episode, I certainly believe that Valentine should be punished for the pain he caused everyone especially his own daughter.

This episode has deferred from the books a bit but that might have been done intentionally for this episode since technically it has for the character’s ages and for overall so far of this season.

There was twists and turns that have left me wondering if this is how Clary and Simon get together is through with what happened in this episode? Guess I will find out in the next episode.

Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 3

Parabatai Lost (January 16, 2017)

Plot Summary

Jace’s situation worsens when he becomes a target for the New York wolf pack, who believes that he is a killer; Raphael pressures Simon to find Camille.

My take on this episode:                      This is the first episode with recaps from this season. It picks up the next day after Clary and Jace jumped off the barge and into the ocean.

Immediately after that Jace is on the run from four groups. The Clave, Luke’s pack, the police, and of course Valentine’s people. Each group because of something that he has upset them. Of course during all of this Alec is still not doing well and that is also with why Isabelle is also after Jace because he is the only one that can help Alec.

Clary and her problems are actually put on the back burner during this episode.

Simon is still having Raphael going after him to get Camille since he is one of her only sires that haven’t joined her into taking down Raphael. Raphael has actually hit pretty low on the way of getting Simon to help him by going after his family.

Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 2

A Door Into the Dark (January 9, 2017)

Plot Summary

Alec and Isabelle act quickly to find Jace after the Clave issues a “shoot to kill” order; Simon turns to Magnus for help when he finds himself at odds with both Raphael and Aldertree; Clary struggles to figure out where she belongs.

My thoughts on this episode:               Once again we have some more season one recaps before we start off after what happened with the first episode of season two. Alec tells Clary off since a lot of trouble has happened for him, Isabelle, Jace, and his parents and brother Max.

Another episode of a lot of things happening for the characters. The other shadowhunters don’t trust her since she is Valentine’s daughter and won’t let her help with anything that has to deal with Jace and she doesn’t think she belongs in either of the two worlds anymore.

Jocelyn is putting finding Jace and killing him on hold so she can get Clary back. Even though Clary doesn’t want anything to do with her mom at all. She also helps Isabelle and Alec even if Isabelle doesn’t like what Alec has to do.

Jace is still struggling to figure out who he is and how that will affect him in the long run and he doesn’t fully believe Valentine until Valentine brought Clary via Dot.

Simon has been put into a tough spot by both Aldertree and Raphael and he doesn’t know what to do about it. He and Magnus come to a agreement of sorts about Simon’s status of being a vampire.

Shadowhunters

Season 2 Episode 1

This Guilty Blood (First Aired Date: January 2, 2017)

Plot Summary

Jace’s depature with Valentine creates upheaval in The Institute; the arrival of Victor Aldertree hampers Alec, Isabelle and Clary’s plan to rescue Jace; Jocelyn, now awake, tries to catch up on events.

My thoughts on this episode:               We start off this episode with seeing a bit of what happened in the first season as a small recap. Then after that we dive into the first episode.

A lot has happened since Jace went with his dad onto the barge. We met the new Institute director and I don’t really like him and not a whole lot of people really do.

All the characters had surprising things happen for them. Like Malec having their first, and certainly note least, fight. Isabelle trying to be good and help Clary out. Jocelyn finding out that Jonathon is still alive and she is not happy about that even though us book fans of the series know that Jace isn’t that one. Jace is fighting within himself still about being Valentine’s son. Clary is still trying to find Jace to bringhim back which didn’t happen. And Simon is still sidelined along with his feelings for Clary.

In 1940, before the start of World War II, James Fleming, the original British secret agent, races on a high-stakes chase to track down the ancient lost treasure of King Huascar of the Incas. He must recover it before the Nazis do or the whole world will be in imminent danger.

But this is no ordinary treasure hunt. The Incas have proven their cunning and intellect in not only how they hid their treasure, but how they protected it. Fleming joins forces in the remote ruins of Peru, South America with Kate Rhodes, a policewoman on leave from the United States, her archaeologist brother, Nick, and their college professor, Dr. Charlie. Together, they must decode, interpret the clues, and face the challenges of the Chakana on their hunt for the treasure.

If this wasn’t difficult enough, the group is hounded throughout their search of the ancient Sacred Valley by international artifact smugglers, familiar with the Chakana and working with the Nazis, who are determined to acquire the treasure to help finance their war effort. Intrigue, danger, suspense, action, adventure, and even romance abound in this brave band’s quest to save the free world.

My take on this book:              Chakana by W.E. Lawrence is a great book. I was so happy when this book hit the top of my TBR List to read it. Most definitely a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond.

The main character of this book is Kate Rhodes.

What I like about Kate Rhodes is the fact that she’s the youngest kid in her family. She knows what she wants in life. By this, I mean that by the age of eighteen she knew that she wanted to be the first female Chief of Police but that kind of changes further into the book. What I also like about her is that she can hold her own in a fight or even with a gun which is needed as a police officer but even more with what she needs to do thanks to her brother. What I didn’t like about her is that when it comes to James Fleming, who I will introduce soon, is that she at times lets her emotions get the better of her. And we all know that can be used against her. Then again, none of us can help that happening, at least most of the time or who we fall in love with.

The secondary character of this book is James Fleming.

What I like about him is that he tries to protect Kate even if she doesn’t want him. He tries to honor her request but he can’t help the way he was raised and wants to protect her as best as he can. Another thing that I like about him is that he tries to hide his obvious affections for Kate Rhodes and focus on the Incan trails that they have to face along with not being captured. He also struggles with this a lot throughout the book. James struggles with not only his feelings for Kate but also doing what is right by contacting his boss and stopping the smugglers from getting the gold.

The antagonist of this book is obviously the international smuggler.

He’s named in the book but I want you to find out about him on your own and draw your own conclusions about him. All I have to say about him is that Mr. Lawrence is great at creating bad guys.

Chakana by W.E. Lawrence is a great book and one that I couldn’t put down once I started to read it. I am giving this book a five-star rating. I love Indiana Jones and James Bond and that this book was a great mix of the two even though none of the two characters, that are in the male and female lead roles, have anything to do with archeology much. This book does have some grammar and spelling mistakes but not enough that it takes me out of the book to wonder what the author meant. I am definitely recommending it to my readers of this blog. Well to my adult readers this book does have some sex scenes in it.
