They come first.
My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.
The dead could finally have me.
Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?
Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in Last Sacrifice, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series.

The Beginning

We start off Last Sacrifice with Rose in her jail cell completely bored as she is trying to figure out what Queen Tatiana meant in her letter about Lissa having a half sibling that she had no clue about. The book at first was a little slow. Well the whole entire time she is in her jail cell it was. Even when she goes into Lissa’s head to see what was going on around the Royal Court.

Character Development

Though, surprisingly though, Lissa is able to block Rose from her head at certain points while Lissa is around their friends and Rose’s parents. I actually found that to be a good thing since that, to me at least, was a pretty good character development on Lissa. I love to see this type of development evolve even with the sort of main characters of these books.

Life on the Run

After Rose escapes with the help of some people, that shall be nameless except for Dimitri, because they all believe that Rose is innocent and should not be killed for being framed on killing the ex-queen. Rose is so not happy thought about not being in the loop about the jail escape or on the plan about keeping Rose hidden in a very small town where the guardians won’t find her until after her name is cleared.

Rose didn’t like that plan as it didn’t go with her plan from Queen Tatiana. The other character I think that had character development would be Sydney, the Alchemist, because even though her own kind doesn’t like vampires or dhampirs, as they think of them as evil people-well evil “undead” people, but she is liking both Rose and Dimitri as she spends more time with them on the road.

In this book we met a new group of people and how they think of the people that want to be in the modern world instead of sticking to the old way of living. They were there for a short amount of time until they figured out where to go next.

Some background

Which happened to be a place where Miss Karp lives as a Strigoi. Victor’s half-brother turned her back human and it didn’t go well with those two. Though Miss Karp did show them where Lissa’s half-sibling was. Well more of went with them and brought them there. For me it was a shock to see who Lissa’s half-sister was. Though I knew I should have seen that coming from when Rose gave a description of her in Shadow Kiss.

This book was a very good one though I am quite sad that this book series ended. Or at least with Rose and Lissa. Or at least I think it is. I love this series and I am happy with how it ended and with what happened to Rose and Dimitri despite Adrian’s heart being broken when he found out that Rose is still very much in love with Dimitri.
